Its scope of activities wad future broadened with its reorganization under the National youth Service Act No. 69 of 1979. The NYSC is the only state organization which is responsible for policy making, planning and co-coordinating youth activities at Nat

ional level and whose objective is to promote the interested of the youth so as to ensure their full development and participation.

The United Nations and it’s agencies in Sri Lanka in collaboration with the state Ministry of Youth Affairs and the National Youth Services Council organized a youth led panel discussion today to celebrate .

5 young panelists addressed issues that affect the youth of Sri Lanka such as ‘gender’, ‘political participation’, ‘labour rights’, ‘volunteerism’ and ‘reintegration of vulnerable youth’ moderated by the newly selected Sri Lankan Youth Delegates to the United Nations, Thilina Kalhara Panduwawala and Naushalya Rajpakse.

The event was graced by the UN Resident Coodinator and UNDP Resident Representative, Mr. Subinay Nandy, Secretary of the State Ministry of Youth Affairs, Ms. Nilathi Sugathadhasa, Director of the National Youth Services Council, Mr. Adhil Bakeer Markar and representatives of the UN, Non-Governmental Organizations, Community Based Organizations and other youth organizations.
