- To promote regionally and internationally, EIU which strengthens participatory democracy, protection of human rights, social and economic justice, inter-cultural respect, ecological sustainability, and nonviolent and just reconciliation of conflicts.
- To collaborate with educators and institutions who share our goals, in order to expand, strengthen, and institutionalize EIU in schools
and society.
- To serve as a centre of excellence for education, training, research and development of curricula for EIU in the Asia- Pacific Region
- To share ideas and lessons for enhancing and implementing EIU with educators, policy-makers, institutions, and comm unities in other regions and countries, through networking and partnerships. To pursue this mission, APCEIU emphasizes a pedagogical approach to EIU that integrates knowledge and understanding with the development of values and attitudes underpinning a Culture of Peace. EIU also necessarily catalyzes critical empowerment for positive transformations in all areas of life.
- Strengthen regional and sub-regional capacities in planning and implementing a broad range of practices in EIU.
- Encourage and facilitate collaborative links between Asia-Pacific initiatives and other regional, international and global efforts in education.
- Carry out research and development related to the philosophy, teaching methods and curricula in the field of EIU.
- Organize training workshops and seminars on EIU. Produce and disseminate teaching/learning materials and other publications on EIU.
- Undertake any other activities necessary to promote EIU in the Asia-Pacific region.

아태지역 국제이해교육을 위한 교육,훈련,연구,커리큘럼 개발을 위하여 전문기구로서의 역할수행
- 네트워크와 협력을 통하여 다른 지역과 나라에 있는 교육자, 정책수립자, 기관 및 공동체들과 함께 국제이해교육을 향상시키고 충족 시키기 위한 지식과 정보 교류
이러한 역할 수행을 위하여 아태교육원은 평화의 문화에 토대가 되는 방식과 가치의 개발을 통하여 지식과 이해를 통합하는 교육학적 접근 (pedagogical approach) 을 강조한다. 또한 모든 삶의 영역에서 긍정적인 변화를 위한 비판적인 능력향상이 필수적임을 명확히 한다.
