[The Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC), also known as the Khmer Rouge Tribunal, is a special Cambodian court which receives international assistance through the United Nations Assistance to the Khmer Rouge Trials (UNAKRT). The ECCC has jurisdiction to bring to trial senior leaders of Democratic Kampuchea and those who were most responsible for the crimes and serious violation

s of Cambodian penal law, international humanitarian law and custom that were committed during the period from 17 April 1975 to 6 January 1979.]

Following the completion of judicial proceedings, the ECCC began its residual functions in January 2023 for an initial period of three years. The Resource Centre, inaugurated in September 2023, is the centerpiece of the ECCC’s legacy and public access point for information. It responds to the need to carry out broad outreach and educational work related to the trial process, to open the archives to the public, and to monitor the implementation of projects that have been awarded to the Civil Parties and victims of the Khmer Rouge regime.
