DARAJA ACADEMY ALUMNUS VISITS THE ASSEMBLY

Today the County Assembly hosted the Daraja Academy alumnus on a learning session and mentorship.

Received by the Speaaker Hon. Lantano Nabaala, the learners hailed the Assembly for offering them an opportunity to learn on different areas and the procedures of the House.

The vibrant alumnus of Daraja were led by Mwalimu Peter Wagutu who appreciated the opportunity offered by the Assembly saying the formerly Daraja student were now transitioning to other levels of life that needed much advise especially in career chosing.

Speaker Lantano applauded the youthful learners asking them to be the ambassadors of prosperity and peace regardless of their background.

The Speaker wished the team the best in life sending them with a quote of caution "My dear children, there doors in this life that apology will never open" be good ambassadors out there and respect everybody".

The team was taken round the Assembly by a team of County Assembly staffs led by Sergeant Daniel Murage, Miriam Muthoni and Carol Kirichu.

PROVISION OF RAMPS IN ALL PUBLIC BUILDINGS

The House has today adopted a motion by Hon. Dennis Kaniaru a nominated Member of County Assembly urging the County Government to ensure provision of ramps in all buildings within the county pursuant to the provisions of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2025.

Hon Kaniaru noted that that Section 6 of the Second Schedule of the Persons with Disabilities Act, 2025 provides for the duty to provide access to buildings; Further noting that Section 6 (a) (iv) provides that any person who constructs, a building to which the public is invited, shall ensure that persons with disabilities have access through provision of ramps wherever stairs obstruct the free passage of pedestrians, mainly wheelchair users and people with mobility problems.

The Member insisted that most government offices in Laikipia were inaccessible to persons living with disability where crucial services were offered.

The House unanimously supported the motion terming it as timely and impactful if implemented.

ESTABLISHMENT OF A COUNTY MEDICAL TRAINING
CENTRE

The Hose has today adopted a motion on establishment of County medical training centre in Nanyuki tabled by Hon. Stephen Kamau Member for Thingithu Ward.

The Member stated that time was overdue for Nanyuki to have such an institution that will absorb medical students from the County arguing such institutions in the Country that offer such training has a limited number of admission.

Hon.Veronica Ikunyua, a nominated member noted that the County Government had previously engaged the National government to have such an institution by providing a parcel of land but all the agreement went futile after the development.

Hon. Ikunyua added that Nanyuki was strategically placed to host the medical training centre where all students from Laikipia County who wishes to practice and train on medical would be given a priority.

She noted that the institution will open more opportunities not only to student but more so to business community around.

MOTION- REPORT ON EXTENSION OF BURSARY FUND

Umande Ward MCA Hon. Daniel Mugweru, Chairperson, Education, Vocational Training and ICT Committee has tabled a report on the floor of the House seeking the extension of the Laikipia County Bursary fund.The report comes after the expiry of ten years time limit that ran from 2015 to 2025.

Hon. Mugweru said the bursary by the County Government has been a great boost to students especially those from vulnerable background.

The Member noted that the distribution of County bursary had been delayed due to technical challenges but as an assembly they are working around the clock to make sure the beneficiary get it on time.

The County Assembly today held prayer session to start it's 5th session of the 3rd Assembly.

Led by Pastor Njamba, from SDA church, he taught us from the book of Job 1:1 themed "The integrity that God recognizes".

The session was attended by the Speaker Lantano Nabaala, Deputy Governor Reuben Kamuri, Administration, MCA's, Staffs among other invited guests.
