A Fokker 50 aircraft carried the first batch this afternoon. Meanwhile, the Commander of the Somali National Army was last night ordered to prepare 1,100 troops, selected from different units, to be deployed for operations in South West.

The Federal Government of Somalia has blocked a shipment of prison forces’ weapons that General Shub was attempting to secretly transport to Baidoa.

The weapons, which were being moved through Mogadishu Airport, were intercepted by federal authorities before they could be flown to South West State.

Sources confirm the arms were allegedly being covertly transferred by Gen. Shub to clan-based militias being mobilized in Awdiinle in recent weeks.

The move reportedly comes after President Abdiaziz Lafta-Gareen lost confidence in the previously registered South West regional forces, prompting a rapid effort to arm fighters drawn specifically from his own clan.

As he concluded his assignment in Somalia, the UN Special Representative James Swan held a farewell meeting yesterday in Mogadishu with Somalia’s National Security Advisor Awees Haji Yusuf Ahmed and the Director General of the Presidency Abdihakim Mohamed Yusuf.

Swan expressed deep appreciation for the close cooperation and partnership during his tenure and reaffirmed the continued commitment of the United Nations to support Somalia’s state-building and peace efforts going forward.
