This past week, while on official duty in Kigali, Rwanda, I joined IEBC Chairperson Mr. Erastus Edung Ethekon, HSC, in leading an IEBC delegation on a courtesy call to the Kenyan High Commission in Kigali, where we were received by H.E. Amb. Janet Mwawasi Oben and her team. The meeting was also attended by the Chairperson of the Kenya Diaspora Association in Kigali.

Our discussions centred on strengthening collaboration to enhance diaspora voter registration and participation, improving access to electoral services for Kenyans living abroad, addressing operational and identification challenges, and fostering structured partnerships between IEBC, the Kenyan Mission and the diaspora community to promote inclusive, accessible and credible electoral processes.

Civic fatigue is understandable, but silence is not a strategy. To the youths who refuse to vote, that is not a protest. It is a surrender to those who show up to vote and you then get locked out of the political system for the next five years.

When you refuse to participate, you do not punish the political system; you hand full authority to those who show up.

Power does not concede to absence; it only responds to numbers.

Do not walk away from the polling station, you do not dismantle the table that way - you are merely leaving your seat empty for someone else to decide your taxes, your healthcare, your jobs, and your freedom.

Do not despair nor sucumb to the cynicism parvading the nation-The new IEBC has delivered 32 fair, credible, and transparent by-elections since Nov. last year- despite the parvading national cynicism.

Today, I represented the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) at the Machakos Cluster Public Participation Forum on Campaign Financing Draft Regulations and proposed contributions and spending limits.

During my remarks, I emphasized that public participation is a constitutional imperative and a cornerstone of our democracy. Democracy is a lived reality, and it requires each of us, as Kenyans, to actively participate.

When we refuse to participate in elections, it is not a protest, it is a surrender.

I appreciate all stakeholders who took part in today's engagement as we continue strengthening transparency, accountability and electoral integrity.
