Earlier today H.E Ababu Namwamba E.G.H met Her Excellency Dr. Canon Idah Betty Odinga, to commence the process of welcoming her to the United Nations as Kenya’s incoming Ambassador/Permanent Representative to the UN Environment Programme (UNEP). Mama Idah is guaranteed our full support as she gets ready to commence her tour of diplomatic duty in the service of our Motherland.

With Kenya privileged to be host to one of only four United Nations headquarters in the world, the KENYA Mission to UNON & UNEP is looking forward to benefiting from Mama Idah’s wealth of experience, wisdom and knowledge in further advancing Kenya’s strategic national interests on the global stage, especially at a time of the historic UN@80 reforms and the monumental challenges facing the very essence of multilateralism.

H.E Ababu once again condoled with Mama Idah for the loss of Baba Raila Amolo Odinga, his political father.

H.E Ababu Namwamba E.G.H, is leading the staff from the KENYA Mission to UNON & UNEP in a week-long strategic retreat at Lake Naivasha Resort to further strengthen the Mission and prepare it for the leadership transition ahead of handing over to his successor and taking up his new posting in Kampala as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary/High Commissioner of the Republic of Kenya to the Republic of Uganda. We are delighted that under his visionary leadership and in a period of less than one year, we have achieved much in elevating the status of Kenya as a United Nations host country. .

H.E ABABU NAMWAMBA IN BUSIA COUNTY ON OFFICIAL DUTY

Earlier today, H.E. Hon. Ababu Namwamba, EGH paid a courtesy call on the new Busia County Commissioner, Mr. Stephen Orinde.

The two leaders discussed a wide range of issues, including the security of Busia residents and cross-border trade between Kenya and Uganda. They noted the critical role played by the Busia and Malaba border points as well as Lake Victoria in facilitating the movement of people, goods and services between the two countries.

H.E. Hon. Ababu, who is set to assume his role as Kenya’s High Commissioner to Uganda, is expected to further strengthen diplomatic cooperation and bilateral relations between the two nations. Uganda is Kenya’s most important bilateral partner on multiple fronts, including trade, regional security cooperation and social interaction.

Ambassador Ababu also briefed the County Commissioner on the UN Mashinani projects undertaken by the Kenya Mission to UNON and UNEP to ensure continuity and sustained impact.
Later, H.E Hon Ababu visited Sisenye Forest to assess the progress of the UN Mashinani greening initiative he launched last year. As the Head of Kenya’s Mission to UNON and UNEP, Amb. Ababu adopted Sisenye Forest in Busia and spearheaded a major tree-planting exercise last year to increase forest cover, which is woefully low in Bunyala and across Busia County. Other areas adopted by Hon. Ababu under his flagship UN Mashinani initiative include parts of Arabuko Sokoke Forest in Kilifi County, Cheptais block of Mt. Elgin in Bungoma County and a section of endangered Mangrove Forest in Kwale County.
He was accompanied by Kenya Forest Service officers led by the Sisenye Station Manager, Mr. Jacob Wakoli, as well as his predecessor, Mr. Godfrey Opana, who has since been transferred to Elgeyo Marakwet County.

H.E Ababu later hosted the delegation to lunch, and assured them of the continuation of his UN Mashinani pet initiative.

Our Head of Mission H.E Ababu Namwamba EGH, Held fruitful talks with H.E Veronica Garcia Gutierrez, Ambassador of Costa Rica to Kenya and the United Nations in Nairobi, who paid him a courtesy call. The discussions covered a wide range of issues of mutual interest, including strengthening the UN Office at Nairobi (UNON), consolidating the UN Environment Programme headquarter functions and Nairobi as the global capital for environmental diplomacy, and deepening south-south cooperation through the G77+China whose Nairobi Chapter is chaired by H.E Ababu Namwamba.
Kenya and Costa Rica share a strong commitment to multilateralism. .
