Yesterday, we joined a timely multi-stakeholder dialogue on Freedom of Religion or Belief (FoRB), convened by THE KESHO ALLIANCE, bringing together actors working on religious freedom, interfaith engagement, peacebuilding, and social cohesion in Kenya.

The conversation provided a critical platform to reflect on emerging FoRB issues, share insights from ongoing community initiatives, and engage constructively on the proposed Religion Regulation Bill.

Young Members of Parliament, emphasized the importance of safeguarding constitutional freedoms while ensuring that any regulatory framework strengthens, rather than restricts, Kenya’s rich religious diversity.

We also shared perspectives on how the bill may impact interfaith relations, community trust, and civic space, especially for young people and grassroots faith actors.

Embakasi West Member of Parliament, Hon. Mark Mwenje, has urged young people to take advantage of the opportunities available on social media to generate income rather than engaging in endless political debates and online abuse.

Speaking during an Intergenerational Forum that brought together Gen Zs and Millennials in his constituency yesterday, the vocal MP encouraged the youth to emulate European countries where the internet is used to create jobs and boost economies.

“Let our youth use social media to make money and not attack politicians. You can even create AI-related programs and other digital innovations to earn a living,” he said.

The Intergenerational Forum, the first of its kind in Nairobi, aims to foster dialogue between different generations on leadership, innovation, and economic empowerment. The first event of this kind was held last month at Embu University.

The one day event was supported by Africa Centre for Parliamentary Affairs (ACEPA) in partnership with Qhala, a digital transformation company.
