The International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) is an Inter- Governmental region organization. The organization is composed of 12 Member States, namely; Angola, Burundi, Central African Republic, Republic of Congo,Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, Republic of Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. Its establishment was based on the recognition that political instability and
conflicts in these Member states have a considerable regional dimension and thus require a concerted effort in order to promote sustainable peace and development. The ICGLR Regional Multifunctional Youth Forum was established at the 1st General Assembly of the Youth Forum held in Dar es salaam, Tanzania from 10th -12th May 2010. The ICGLR Regional Multifunctional Youth Forum Accord was negotiated and signed on 24th July 2014 by Member States highlighting the main objectives of the Forum which are;
a) To provide for a platform for exchange of experiences and good practices, establish lasting alliances for dialogue and consultation, develop advocacy strategies and a culture of tolerance and peace at regional level. b)To promote the role of youth in peace, security and development process, including access to information and participation in good governance and democratic processes at the national and regional level. c)To advocate the participation of youth in the elaboration of development and job creation policies in order to ensure that youth priorities and concerns are addressed. d)To promote dialogue between youth and decision makers
e)To reinforce the capacities of youth organizations of Member States of the International Conference of the Great Lakes Region in coordinating, networking and educating the population of their role in the promotion of peace, human and women rights, rule of law, democracy and good governance in the Great Lakes Region,
