Mr. Sam Nyandiga, our MD, this morning inspected the progress of rehabilitation works aimed at restoring River Oyani to its natural course and protecting the Oyani Intake from future disruptions.

The Oyani Intake is the backbone of Migori’s water supply system. Without a properly planned intake, even the most advanced treatment plants or extensive distribution networks cannot guarantee reliable service to consumers.

For years, however, the intake has faced perennial challenges. River Oyani, which feeds the treatment facility, has repeatedly deviated from its natural course, leading to unstable water flow. This has reduced the efficiency of raw water abstraction and compromised the efficiency of the entire water supply chain.

To address this long-standing problem, the County Government of Migori and MIWASCO have initiated a rehabilitation program aimed at delivering lasting solutions rather than short-term fixes.

This morning, our Managing Director Sam Nyandiga has inspected ongoing works designed to restore the river to its natural path and protect the intake from future disruptions.

The interventions under the rehabilitation plan include:

💧Construction of an artificial riverbank to redirect water flow and maintain channel stability.
💧Installation of reinforced gabions to control erosion and protect the intake from scouring.

According to Nyandiga, the ultimate goal is to secure a consistent water source that guarantees reliable, and sustainable supply for Migori residents.
