Tharaka Nithi County Government in partnership with Agriculture Sector Network (ASNET) held the ASNET Shamba Expo 2026 at Kajiunduthi Stadium in Maara constituency, bringing together thousands of farmers, agribusiness players, financial institutions, development partners and government stakeholders under the theme: “From Shamba to Market through Innovation.”

The expo provided a vibrant platform for farmers to interact with modern agricultural technologies, market opportunities and innovative solutions aimed at improving productivity and livelihoods.

The event showcased innovations across key value chains including dairy, coffee, avocado, tea, cereals, horticulture, poultry, livestock, bananas and macadamia, reinforcing the county’s commitment to transforming agriculture through innovation and market access.

“When women are economically empowered, families prosper, communities grow and nations thrive.”

The Tharaka Nithi County Government is hosting the two-day Third International Women’s Economic Empowerment Conference at Chuka University under the theme: “Evidence Based Solutions to Transformative Actions: Initiatives for What Works for Women’s Economic Empowerment.”

The conference has been organized by the Kenyatta University Women’s Economic Empowerment Hub in collaboration with the Tharaka Nithi County Government to discuss issues affecting women’s economic empowerment and childcare interventions.

Other partners include the Gates Foundation, Yale University, Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, Bangor University, IWU St. Augustine Campus and the ECD Network for Kenya.

The conference was officially opened by the Chief Guest Dr. Ruda Ban from Gates Foundation accompanied by Tharaka-Nithi Deputy Governor Nyaga Muisrael, Chuka University VC Prof. Henry Mutembei and Kenyatta University DVC Prof. Caroline Thoruwa among other dignitaries.

A strong educational foundation in Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) is essential in shaping the future of every child and the nation at large.

Tharaka Nithi County Chief Officer for Education, Vocational Training and Culture, Mr. Mwiti Mono, received a donation of books worth Ksh3 million from Kenya Literature Bureau under the institution’s Corporate Social Responsibility programme following a partnership established in 2018.

The consignment, comprising teacher guides and course books, was delivered by Mr. Francis Gikundi on behalf of KLB Managing Director George Okeyo. The books are expected to greatly enhance learning by improving access to quality educational resources in 436 ECDE centres across the county.

Tharaka Nithi County marked a key milestone today with the launch of the Kenya Military Veterans Tharaka-Nithi Chapter at Picnic Grounds in Chuka Town.

The County Chief Officer for Public Administration, Intergovernmental Coordination and Devolution Affairs, Mr. Antony Kiruja, represented H.E. Governor Muthomi Njuki as Chief Guest.

The event brought together County Commissioner Mr. David Gitonga and senior serving and retired military officers led by Ambassador Major General (Rtd) Lucas Tumbo, Chair of the KDF Military Veterans Advisory Committee.

Governor Njuki, in remarks delivered on his behalf, underscored the importance of honoring retired military personnel for their selfless national service, noting that their experience, discipline, and expertise remain a valuable resource for county development.

The newly launched Veterans Chapter is expected to strengthen coordination, welfare and engagement of military veterans in Tharaka Nithi County.

Tharaka Nithi County First Lady Mrs. Margaret Muthomi, through the Njiwa Jiinue Initiative, donated sewing machines and dignity kits to Kajuki and Muthambi Vocational Training Colleges to empower learners through equipping learning environments and mentorship support.

Later, Mrs. Muthomi oversaw the presentation of mobility assistive equipment to Chuka Level 5 Hospital, alongside Partners for Care, who support county efforts toward shaping a future grounded in skill, dignity, and inclusion.

These collaborative efforts continue to empower members of our communities with invaluable technical skills, address personal needs, and mentor and encourage youth.
