TRANSNZOIA COUNTY LIVESTOCK SALE YARD BILL 2024...
Review and Amendment of the bill by the County executive committee members.
The Trans-Nzoia County Livestock Sale Yard Bill, 2024 was developed to provide a legal and institutional framework for the regulation, management, and operation of livestock sale yards within the county.
However, during stakeholder review and implementation planning, gaps were identified relating to inclusivity, governance structures, public health, environmental safeguards, youth and gender considerations, and alignment with ongoing livestock development initiatives.
In response, the County Executive Committee (CEC) members have convened a consultative meeting together with the technical Team from the Kenya Livestock Commercialization Project (KeLCoP), to review and amend the Bill.
The ongoing meeting being chaired by the CECM agriculture aims to ensure the Bill aligns with national policies, devolved functions, and KeLCoP objectives on livestock commercialization, market access, and sustainable livestock systems.
Part of the key aspects under scrutiny include;
Review of the provisions of the Trans-Nzoia County Livestock Sale Yard Bill, 2024 and identifying of areas requiring amendments.
Alignment of the Bill with Livestock guidelines, safeguards, and livestock commercialization priorities.
Enhancing inclusivity by incorporating roles of relevant county departments, including public health, environment, gender, youth, and social services.
Strengthening governance and coordination mechanisms for livestock sale yard management within the county.
And ensuring compliance with existing national laws, county legislation, and cross-cutting policy issues.
