MY THIRST TO QUENCH THIRST
It really pains me that in this century and with our constituency bordering a lake, our people still suffer to get water.
Statistics show that the average distance to a water point for Seme Constituency residents is 5Km.Our mothers treks 10Km both ways to search for this golden commodity. Sometimes water is algae infested and human and animals compete for it.
Water is mostly fetched by young girls and women in our region. For the girls to reach school in time ,they have to wake up early and begin water fetching trips as early as 5.am.The risks involved are great pointer to the HIV/AIDS and early childhood pregnancy in Seme Constituency, school dropouts, truancy and poor performance are also attributable to this.
Our rocky but fertile land lie fallow because of scarcity of water.Lake Victoria has turned out to be destructive asset instead of an oasis of hope for our people.
It is time we must put our brain together to solve the perennial water issues in Seme Constituency.
Seme Constituency has an irrigation potential of 1823 ha according to the Government.Only 4% of this is under irrigation.
The renaissance Seme Constituency will invest in irrigation to exploit our full potential and make Seme food secure. This will be achieved through sustainable use of water from our aspiring, wells and backflow water among others.
We will rehabilitate the existing water supply schemes, increase the capacity and improve on efficiency.
Seme Manyien will explore partnership to relieve us from water crisis once and for all.Water,Education,Health, Sanitation and food security are my number one priority for Seme Constituency and we have the blueprint to quench the thirst of our people, Jo-Seme
