Kamagambo University ,located at the border between Kisii and Migori Counties is now chartered by the national government of Kenya to offer three major degree courses including Education, Theology and Business Management.

It is good news especially for those in the South Nyanza region.

The Seventh Day Adventist church now takes pride in three accredited universities - University of East Africa Baraton, Adventist Universal of Africa and now Kamagambo.

John Obiero Nyagarama (1946 – 2020)

John Obiero, the first governor of Nyamira County was born in Nyakemincha village, Nyamira County in 1946.

Nyagarama went to Nyakemincha primary school before joining Maseno School for his O-levels and later joined Kisii School for his A-levels. He passed and was selected to join University of Nairobi where he trained as an English literature teacher.

Upon graduation from the University of Nairobi, he started off his teaching career at Nduru Boys High School between 1975 and 1976.

He was transferred to Nyansiongo Boys High School until 1978, before he was moved to Menyenya High School.

Nyagama was among the first to teach at Menyenya High School for four years before hanging his teaching gloves.

He focused his energy on tea farming and lucky enough he joined Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) as a management trainee and eventually became a manager in various KTDA branches countrywide.

In 1991 and 1992 he was the managing director of the privately-owned Sotik Tea Factory.

Nyagama took a break from tea farming when he joined Touchline Press Limited, a private publishing company, as its chief executive officer before going back to tea business. He established a tea export company in Mombasa in 1993.

The following year after establishing his company, he was elected to serve on the KTDA’s board as a director representing the tea zones of Marani, in Kisii County, and certain centers within Nyamira County up to 2013.

Nyagarama also served as the chairman of Kenya Tea Packers Limited (KETEPA) between 1996 and 2002, and was among the founders of the Chai Trading Company in 2011 and serving as chairman until his resignation in 2013 to pursue a political career.

Nyagarama unsuccessfully contested for West Mugirango Constituency in the 2007 general elections. He did not lose hope. In 2013, he threw his gubernatorial candidature and became a victor on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.

Again, in August 2017 elections, he retained his gubernatorial seat after defeating his close competitor Walter Nyambati who had served as a Member of Parliament for Kitutu Masaba.

Nyagarama died in December 18, 2020 after suffering multiple lung failures associated with COVID-19. May his soul continue to RIP. 🙏

Nyamira stands at a critical crossroad. Our resources, our public funds and the future of our children cannot be handed over to individuals burdened by track records of financial mismanagement in Narok.

We need leadership defined by transparency, fiscal disciplineand unwavering service to the people. We cannot trade our county's progress for self enrichment and broken promises.

Say a firm NO to Chanua and those who treat public trust as personal capital. Stand up for honest, visionary leadership that puts Nyamira first.

The gentleman who will be Charlene Ruto’s life partner is Isaiah Yunke a Tanzanian Maasai who is a self-made entrepreneur known to have built his name from the ground up.

He is the founder of SomaApp, a platform that has connected over 7,000 Africans to scholarships abroad.

In 2018, he received the Queen’s Young Leaders Award from Queen Elizabeth II for his tech-driven social impact.

And 2019, he was named an Ashoka Fellow and featured on the Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 list of promising changemakers.

He also made history as the first African at the age of 17 to present on child rights advocacy at the 2007 G8 Summit.

At 20s he was dinning with queen..

The couple will hold their traditional engagement, Koito, tomorrow, Saturday at Intonna farm, Kilgoris, Narok County.

Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu is among dignitaries expected to attend the ceremony.
