After 20 days of classroom-based training in Socio-Emotional Skills Development (SESD), young people from Machakos, Makueni, Kitui, Taita Taveta, and Kwale under Lots 3, as well as Kirinyaga, Embu, Nyeri, Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Nyandarua, and Murang’a under Lot 4 of the NYOTA Project graduated this week with pride and are now ready to transition into the field under the On-the-Job Experience (OJE) component, where they will begin hands-on technical training in skills of their choice.
I take this opportunity to congratulate these newest graduates and wish them success as they begin the next phase of their journey, working alongside master craftsmen, industry experts, and employers who will mentor, guide, and equip them with practical skills over the next five months. During this five-month period, the youth will also receive a monthly stipend of KSh 6,000, while all training costs will be fully covered by the Government of Kenya, ensuring that the program remains free and accessible to young people.
The NYOTA Project continues to shape a generation of empowered young people by bridging the gap between ambition and opportunity, and by creating pathways for skills development, employability, and long-term economic inclusion.
Skilling is the future of our country. A skilled youth population is the foundation of innovation, productivity, and sustainable economic growth. I therefore encourage young people across the country to embrace such skilling programs, seize available opportunities, and invest in building their talents and abilities for a brighter future.
Each milestone reached brings us closer to building a more skilled, empowered, and productive generation. This progress reflects the Government’s unwavering commitment, under the leadership of H.E. President William Samoei Ruto, to creating opportunities for young people, promoting skills development, expanding access to opportunity, and unlocking their full potential as key drivers of national transformation.
