Happy Birthday to my cherished sister, the treasured soul in my life. Our bond is unbreakable, and your joy is infectious. May this year bring you an abundance of blessings in wealth, health, and happiness. I am grateful every day for you. Enjoy your special day to the fullest!"

No matter how strong you are, you will once in a while fall into a moment of vulnerability. Your principles will be put to the test, your faith will be challenged, your strongwill will be dwarfed, your ethics will be tempted and your power will be limited. Circumstances will try to force you to do or believe things you never thought you could do. You will fail at your strongest point. Life will happen to you. You will wish that, that day could have been skipped. But it's life. It's part of a human journey. You must learn to rise when you fall and don't beat yourself so hard.

Have a Thriving Thursday

Life doesn't give you what you deserve, it gives you what you demand. It gives you what you have gone forward to take for yourself. Be strong enough to go for what you deserve. No amount of pity parties will bring you a real transformation in life. It won't open opportunities or make you reputable. Whatever you want or desire, you will have to go for it if you want it. You must ask for it and be ready to 'fight' for it. You must be so strategic and align your dreams with your capabilities and passion. This way, you will win. You must master your ex*****on with sher precision to stay competitive and ahead of the game.

Have a niche. Not every opportunity is for you. Don't take every job, tender, business opportunity or relationship. Grow a niche to your career, business or relationship. You may venture into more than one area but, do it with some 'choosy/picky' attributes. Let's see you diversify but with more clarity and focus. You are not cut for anything and everything that comes along. You won't go far if you want to be everywhere and do everything.

*DAILY BOOST*
There is a problem with the middle class. A serious deceit that makes this cohort think are better than anyone below them. A brief financial stability by chance & one thinks everyone that hasn't 'achieved' what they have has an inferior mental capacity, lazy or poor financial planner. While those at the top of the financial league are often silent, composed & calm, the middle class are competing to show off. A big number of this cadre that has tasted temporal 'financial freedom' for the first time have unfathomable arrogance, pride & ego. They fail to learn that great wealth is built in silence & discretion.

Have a polite Monday

*THIS IS THE REASON WHY MOST KENYANS/AFRICANS WOULD DIE POOR*

At my local village, at around 4pm to 7pm, you will find small groups of people (mostly middle aged men) along the road, market places or at homes chatting about village, county and national politics.

This is a good way of socializing, but have you ever asked yourself why most people are poor in your local village?

One major reason why most people are poor (and would die poor) is because they don’t mind their own businesses.

They are over-concern about national issues.

They think bad government is the reason why they are poor.

Let Kenya`s president and politicians be whatever they wants to be. My life is in my hand, and my Creator.

What exactly am I teaching here?

The surest way to be poor forever is to hope the government does better.

The next to that is to hope that job (even good ones) would make you rich.

By now you and I know better.

You may ask, “But starting a business and making it successful is NOT easy”

Yes, it is not easy and it would never be easy!

I spent more than 6 years in the wilderness and desert of the business world, trying, failing, making mistakes, facing rejections and oppositions from friends and family members,

So I understand when you say that it’s not easy.

But you see, it’s better to die young as a free man, than to live long in slavery!

That is how I always think.

I was one of the best students to ever go to school. I was the best students in Accounting, Economics and Commerce. I graduated from University of Nairobi, School of Business with 1st class, an academic champion and an influential University political leader.

But, with my good grades I decided to venture into business instead of trying my best to climb the corporate employment ladder.

I have only worked for someone just about 17 months of my life (and that was the worst period of my adult life, you know but it gave me experience).

It was not because I was born by a rich father or because I had anyone to finance my business ventures (in fact, my family opposed my going into business), but because I was willing to DIE, rather than be a slave in the corporate world.

You have power to change your life, if you think you do.

You don’t need any government to make you rich, if you think you don’t.

You don’t have to remain in the slavery of job you don’t like. You can start that business and make enough money to live your life.

I love you and I wish you the best in becoming an entrepreneur.

*I THINK ANY AFRICAN HAS NO REASON TO BE POOR.*

There was the old adage that if you are selling something good, you can open your shop in a far place and people will find you.

Maybe in the 15 century. Not now.

In today`s market place where 50 (or more) businesses/companies may be competing in a market, you cannot just start a business and hope it succeeds.

You cannot just start selling a product or rendering a service and expect sales. You have to work it out. You have to be tactical. You have to understand and apply good marketing strategies.

Marketing is important because it increases your sales.

A little change in your advert can increase your sales by 200%.

I have learned a single tip from a friend (just on a phone conversation) that increased the value of my business by more than 100%.

I have read a marketing book that increased the value of my sales and earnings by more than 300%.

That`s the power of marketing, when done correctly.

Sometimes back I was somewhere and noticed there was a sales man marketing his herbal product.

Without thinking twice, I paid a close attention to how he was pitching his product.

Before you knew it, I had pulled out my phone and started jotting down some notes.

Yea, I turned that into a classroom.

I was jotting down his strategies.

For instance, I noticed that he told many stories that were related to the benefits of his product.

I as well noticed that he (tactically) used those stories as testimonials for his product.

I also noticed that he spoke few good things about his business/company (to build credibility).

Other things I noticed about this smart sales man was that he gave discounts (humans love discounts) and he tried to place some “scarcity strategy” somewhere along his pitch.

All the above and few other things are what I learned from the street sales man.

I wish you saw the way I was jotting the notes as though I was in a classroom.

But you see, it was a classroom.

Funny enough, this guy was so good at selling that I later had to buy his product.

Listen.

Selling skills are the most important skills in the realm of business.

You can never be rich, until you learn how to sell.

You don’t have to sell on the street. You may sell using other advanced medium (like the internet) but if you don’t master how to sell, you may never make it in business.

What is the way out?

You can sell the way you were sold.

We all buy stuffs every day from multi-billion companies to street sales guys.

We “fall” for sales pitches every day.

But you see, most of us don’t know how to sell.

Why can’t you pay attention to how you were sold?

Pay attention to what makes you “fall in love” with your favourite brands.

Think deep!

Why do you like Safaricom than Airtel?

Why do you like Coke and not Pepsi?

Why did you buy that wrist watch or handbag the other day (even though you didn’t need it)

It might be because you were pitched by a great sales man.

What am I saying here?

Pay a close attention to your emotions and how they lead to your buying decisions.

If you truly love to succeed in business, you have to be attentive to how you were sold.

The strategies that sold you could be used by you to sell your own products.

I think Africans have no reason to be poor.

*START A SCAFFOLDING RENTALS BUSINESS AND BE PART OF KENYA’S FASTEST GROWING SECTOR*

Are you aware that the construction sector is the fastest growing industry in Kenya currently?

According to the recently released data from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics, construction industry grew at 13.6% faster than the financial and agriculture sectors which grew at 8.7% and 5.6% respectively.

You don’t need rocket science to know where the big money is. Going by the recent trends, an investment in this massive industry would certainly be timely as well as rewarding especially due to factors such as devolution, discovery of oil and a growing middle class.

But sorry for boring you with heavy jargon and numbers, I was just trying to help you see the opportunities that exist around you and what the future holds. Talking about opportunities, one incredible business idea from the construction industry is scaffolding rentals.

My research has shown that Kenya has a serious shortage of scaffolds. Not many people have realized that it is possible to set up a small scaffolding rentals business with a small amount of capital. In my opinion, this is a ripe opportunity that is still under-exploited.

*What Is Scaffolding Rentals Business All About*

A scaffold is a temporary structure on the outside of a building that is being constructed. This structure can be used by workers to climb as they perform specialized tasks such as paint-work, building repairs or construction.

Another job of a scaffold is to hold concrete together in order to allow for formation of slab and pillars of a house under construction. Most constructors prefer to rent scaffolds as opposed to buying them as a way to save on cost and minimize liability.

*Step 1: Getting Started*

If you are planning to start on a small budget then its far much easier to start with wooden trappers and then you can advance to steel scaffolds as your business expands.

So step one will be to find good quality pine/eucalyptus wood from the local timber yards.

Kitengela would be a good place to begin your search although you can always expand your search to other parts of the region in order to get cheaper prices.

Tip: Ask for high quality 8 by 1 or 9 by 1 wood. Also ask for props.

*Step 2: Look For A Yard*

A yard is basically an empty plot of land where you can keep your wood and props as you await customers to come rent them. This doesn’t have to be anything fancy.

Just a central area from where you will be running your operations from.

So if you have an idle piece of land near a growing town center then this could be a brilliant way to put it to good use. Alternatively you can lease one.

Tip: Look for a minimum 20x30ft piece of land that is accessible by motorized transport.

*Step 3: Plan For Transport*

Because scaffolds are heavy items, it is important to plan on how you are going to be picking and delivering them to your clients. If you have a pick-up truck or a small lorry then you will have a slight advantage.

However, if you are just a small investor looking to start from scratch, then you will need to talk to transporters in your area and negotiate prices in advance.

Tip: Typically it costs about Ksh.2,000 to hire a pickup truck for about 2 hour.

*Step 4: Print Brochures and Business Cards*

Now that you have everything catered for, you can boldly start approaching prospective customers and handing them your business cards and price list. Your customers will mostly be foremen, commercial and residential property developers and so forth.

Tip: Your price list should be based on the duration of rental period. For instance, a popular price tag on the Kenyan market is Ksh.100 for each wooden scaffold rented for 40 days.

*Important Facts*

*Consistent marketing and good service are important ingredients for reaching a wider market.

*For short distance deliveries you can use a cart (mkokoteni) to deliver. A new mkokoteni will costs you Ksh.20,000 to acquire.

*Consider charging delivery/pickup fees to boost your revenue. Alternatively, consider providing free transport to woo new customers if there is competition.

*As you advance you can switch to steel scaffolds which have longer life than wooden ones. Each unit will cost you about Ksh.1,000 to acquire although the price varies depending on the international price of steel.

*You can expect to lose about 10% of wooden scaffolds due to wear and tear during each rental period. Essentially that means you can re-use a load of wooden scaffolds for a maximum of 10 times before they get worn out completely.

*Steel scaffolds can be re-used for a much longer time and they are preferred where unique building shapes are required (e.g. dome shaped buildings).

*The average rental price for wooden scaffolds is Ksh.100, steel scaffolds Ksh.150 and props Ksh.25 so you can think out your pricing on that basis.

*Apart from scaffolds other items that you can add to your rentals list include: bucket hoists, concrete mixers, shovels, vi*****rs, ladders and wheelbarrows.

*Consider insuring your equipment to avoid unexpected loses.

*Demand for scaffoldings rental is available throughout the country particularly due to the effects of devolution. Some prime areas include: Nairobi Metro region, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru and Meru.

*The only mandatory license required is the county single business permit which will cost you about Ksh.10,000 per year at most.

*How Much To Invest*

Minimum Estimates For Wooden Scaffolds

200 Pieces of Eucalyptus Timber – Ksh.50,000 (Ksh.250 per piece)

200 Pieces of Eucalyptus Props – Ksh.16,000 (Ksh.80 per piece)

Transport To Your Yard – Ksh.10,000

Others (Marketing, Miscellaneous) – Ksh.24,000

TOTAL BUDGET = Ksh.100,000

*How Much To Expect*

You can make a decent Ksh.1 Million per year on a small yard.

*Final Word*

The good thing about this business is that you don’t have to be involved in its day to day running. That means you can continue doing what you do best even as you leave this business to run in the background (provided there’s good marketing involved).

Best of all, there is room for growth. The construction sector is a multi-billion venture and the future looks bright. So don’t hesitate, if you feel this is the kind of business that would resonate with your needs and passion, go ahead and give it a try.

*DID YOU KNOW THAT PERFUMES ARE ARGUABLY ONE OF THE MOST PROFITABLE PRODUCTS IN THE WORLD?*

I’m just going to be straight up about it…

Perfumes are arguably one of the most profitable products in the world.

The reason is because creating the actual perfume liquid is ridiculously cheap and can be sold at an extremely high margin. For example, it may cost you just Ksh.50 to make a perfume that can be sold for Ksh.500 or Ksh.1,000.

That kind of margin is almost unheard of, which is why almost every luxury brand has their own line of perfumes. The opportunity is wild.

However, there’s a caveat to this.

While the cost to create super high end perfume is cheap, the cost to market it is not. The reason is that fragrances are hard to sell especially online. It’s much harder to convince someone to buy a fragrance versus other types of products because they can’t smell it through their phone or computer screens.

It’s also a product that requires expensive packaging, which is critical because that’s what drives up the value of the perfume.

If you can overcome these problems, then it’s an amazing business to be in.

The cost of starting a perfume business can vary wildly.

You have to take in consideration the type of cologne, quality of cologne, quantity of cologne, and more. Many of these things are going to come down with what manufacturers you decide to partner with and what you’re trying to do.

Overall though, you can expect to spend anywhere between Ksh.50,000 to Ksh.150,000.

This pricing includes solid cologne, which you will be on the lower end of the estimate. Liquid cologne will naturally be on the higher end. This is also with average packaging costs. For more expensive packaging, you can expect to be in the top 10% of that range, if not more.

With that said, perfume is a business where you can start homemade first.

If you decide to go the handmade route, you can get started with less than Ksh.5,000 for solid cologne and less than Ksh.10,000 with liquid cologne. This includes average packaging. Again, if you decide to go with premium packaging from the start, you will need to spend much more.

None of these estimates includes marketing costs.

Research shows that Kenyans spend over Ksh.5 billion a month buying beauty products. These include bath and shower products, cosmetics, skin care, baby care, oral care and perfume products.

Talking about perfume products, the local industry is largely dominated by foreign multinationals; which begs the question – are there not enough Kenyans who can control their own market?

There is demand for scented perfume and even if you were to sell your product at 500% mark-up it would still be cheaper than most of the big brands on the shelves today.

The secret to conquering this market when you are a small investor lies in producing a high quality product that can get you intimately connected with your target market.

But what does it take to create a perfume brand that can be loved by many people?

As it turns out, the underlying concept is very simple. You can even start a small “factory” in your bedroom and grow with it.

Remember that every big company you see out there started just as a small dream. Coca cola for instance only sold 25 bottles of soda during its first year of operation.

KFC was started by an old retiree who was surviving on pension – but when he cooked a special chicken for his friends a global company was born.

Even those big perfumes you see out there once started as small and hopeless entities. It’s continuous marketing, persistence and consistence that keeps them going.

So don’t let anybody tell you that you can’t do it. There is nothing that can stop you from starting your own perfume business in Kenya.

*3 SECRETS YOU MUST KNOW IF YOU WANT TO START YOUR OWN BUSINESS & MAKE IT SUCCESSFUL IN KENYA OR AFRICA*

Look around and you will notice that these days everyone wants to have their own business.

But what is stopping people?

Why are there not many successful entrepreneurs in Africa?

There are 3 (hidden) reasons for this.

First reason is because we grew up in a society where nobody expects (or encourages) you to build a business.

When I went fully into the business world after my university education, everyone in my family thought I was crazy.

You know, everyone wants their children to work for "big companies"

That's number one reason why we don't have many successful entrepreneurs in Africa

Growing up, we don't dream (or desire) to build companies.

The second reason is because everyone talks about what is bad with us. We focus extensively on the problems in our countries and continent.

No one sits back to look for the opportunities

We can't build companies until we forget our problems and focus on opportunities.

Interestingly, the natural human reaction to problems and challenges is to complain, blame, curse and criticize. That’s what many people do.

While these actions enforce your rights of free expression, they hardly provide any solutions to problems.

But entrepreneurs see problems differently. That’s why we are unique people. We see business opportunities in every problem. We think of solutions instead of whine about our difficulties.

And because most people are frustrated by problems and challenges, they would gladly pay anyone with a solution to get it solved.

One person’s problem is often another person’s opportunity.

You can continue complaining about the problems of your country or sit back to solve one or two of those problems to make money.

Problems are money

Problems are a very good thing.

If you are complaining about problems, it’s because you are poor-minded

Rich-minded people take time to SEARCH for problems they could solve. Poor people take their time to search for problems they can complain about.

The third reason why most people cannot be entrepreneur is because, well, no formal (or informal) educational system was designed to train children to be entrepreneurs.

After I have spent more than 15 years in the business world (part-time and full time) I can't stop wondering why Africans waste a lot of time complaining about everything.

I believe you and I can build great companies and employ other people.

I have NOT arrived and I don't know everything about business but I have one or two things to show you (from my experience as an entrepreneur)

That's one of the reasons why Timothy and I started this WhatsApp group (Profitable Business Ideas)

I received a call from a someone sometimes back. While on phone with him, he lamented, “I don`t know anything about Poultry Farming and I want to go into poultry farming business”

You can guess what I told him…. everybody started as a novice.

Becoming a business genius or a business giant or a business mogul or whatever doesn`t just happen. Nobody was born a business genius, everyone who is today a business genius grew into it.

15 years ago, though I had seen and participated in my mother and brother`s business, I knew near nothing about business.

10 years ago, I knew just a little, very little about business. 5 years ago however, I had acquired much knowledge and practical experience about business.

Today, I know so much, very much about business.

I wouldn`t want to see myself as a business genius yet (because just at a time when you think you know, you come across another person or book that teaches you what you never taught existed), but I have gotten to a point where I can say… I know about business more than most Africans.

What is the essence of my story here?

Don`t be intimidated by someone else`s business attainments or knowledge. They all started from zero.

There was a time Dangote (the richest African) didn`t know anything about business. There was a time Bill Gates didn`t know anything about marketing.

Not knowing anything about business or not having a business of your own today is not really the problem. The only problem lies in your weak will.

If you are strong willed and are willing to learn and to act, you will start learning and acting.

Within a very short period of time, you will acquire much knowledge about the business world and the specific business you are planning to go into.

The more you learn, the more courage you will have, the more actions you will take, the more success you will have (hey, you will fail too).

Why is it so hard for most Africans to learn business and to become a business genius (or a successful business owner)?

Three reasons.

First, because there is low entrepreneurial awareness among African youths.

Most Africans have been brainwashed to love job, “good job” they call it.

Second, because most Africans who want to start business really don`t think of (or think little of) business education.

For most Africans who want to go into business, it`s all about getting capital to buy some product and start selling.

They are ignorant.

Show me a business man who doesn’t read business books and articles and I will show you a poor business owner.

It`s easier to be a lawyer without great learning than to be a successful business owner without much learning.

Third, because most of us grew up in a faulty educational system (school) where we were forced to learn.

Growing up, we have been programmed to think that education has to be given (and by force). This makes it extremely hard for most of us to read books, articles or magazines that teach business skills and many other good stuff.

Education is NOT to be given. It`s to be acquired. Nothing should be painful in the process of acquiring education, it should be pleasant.

To learn so much about business (so as to become a business genius), you have to delete the early programming of school in your brain.

Nobody can and nobody is willing to force you to acquire business knowledge. You have to develop the interest and passion. You have to associate pleasure with reading good business books, articles and magazines.

Read that business magazine. Read those business articles. Download or buy that business book.

I love you and wish you the best as you are working toward becoming a successful business person.

Also, don`t forget to join our training on Investing for Beginners.

Have you ever wondered how the rich grew their wealth to an exponential point and yet it keeps on growing?

Do you aspire to become a successful investor? Or perhaps you aspire to become financially free and retire early?.

With some common sense, careful planning, and the right advice, you too can watch your money accumulate like it's growing on trees.

It is a known fact that Rome wasn't built in a day, and the successful investors of today were once investing beginners some time ago. So the fact that you are just starting out in the investment world should not weigh you down.

You can still become a successful rich investor and attain the pinnacle of success in the investment world, if only you will be willing to learn and take baby steps.
