Today, I represented H.E. Governor Simon Kachapin in welcoming a high-level delegation from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), led by Mr. Valere Nzeyimana, Lead Technical Officer for Land and Water at FAO RAF. The delegation also included Ms. Farayi Zimudzi, FAO Representative in Kenya, and Ms. Husna Mubarak, Governance and Social Inclusion Lead and Digital Land Governance Programme Manager.
The visit marked an important milestone for West Pokot County with the official presentation and handover of the West Pokot County Physical and Land Use Development Plan 2026–2036, a strategic roadmap that will guide land use, physical planning and development across the county over the next decade.
This landmark plan will help promote orderly growth, protect our natural resources, guide infrastructure development, attract investment and ensure that land is utilized in a way that supports sustainable economic growth and improved livelihoods for our people. It also provides a clear framework for balancing development needs with environmental conservation for the benefit of present and future generations.
The plan was developed through technical and financial support from the European Union and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations under the Digital Land Governance Programme, which is co-funded by the European Union.
As a county, we greatly appreciate the continued partnership and support of the European Union and FAO in strengthening land governance, enhancing planning systems and building a strong foundation for sustainable development. Their contribution will play a vital role in shaping a more organized, resilient and prosperous county.
