✨ APPRECIATION POST ✨

Today has been a truly humbling and memorable day in my journey of service.

I sincerely thank H.E. Governor FCPA Fernandes Barasa for honoring both the Thanksgiving Mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Lwanda Parish and my homecoming ceremony at Shihome Primary School grounds. Your encouragement and belief in the youth inspire me to serve with even greater commitment and dedication.

My heartfelt gratitude also goes to the Speaker of the County Assembly, Rt. Hon. James Namatsi, MCAs, County Executives, senior county officials, friends, family, and the great people of West and South Kabras for standing with me.

Your love, prayers, and support remind me that leadership is about service, humility, and community. Together, we will continue building a progressive and inclusive Kakamega County.

God bless you all. 🙏

Yesterday we concluded the distribution of blankets and mattresses to learners with disabilities across Kakamega County

This initiative is part of Governor Fernandes Barasa’s commitment to inclusive education, ensuring every child, regardless of ability, learns in dignity and comfort.

Let us continue to stand together for a county where no child is left behind.

Today, I joined stakeholders drawn from daycare operators, domestic care workers, religious leaders, elders, and youth representatives in a community dialogue forum organized by the Coalition on Violence Against Women (COVAW) in partnership with WUSC and Global Affairs Canada.

This important engagement focused on the newly validated National Care Policy, which seeks to reposition childcare from being a “job of last resort” into a dignified and empowering vocation of choice.

On behalf of Kakamega County, I deeply appreciate our partners led by Ms. Esther Gitau for their commitment. Together, we are working on a tool to track, register, and officially operationalize daycare centers and caregivers across the county. This aligns squarely with the social development agenda outlined in the manifesto of H.E. FCPA Fernandes Barasa, which prioritizes empowerment of women, youth, and vulnerable groups.

To our young caregivers, I encourage you to pursue additional skills in our county polytechnics, because while caregiving is a noble calling, planning ahead for the future is equally important.

Today, the Kakamega County family gathered to celebrate the life of a remarkable servant leader, the late Jessica Weku Wesonga. She will be remembered for her humility, compassion, and unwavering commitment to community service.

Speaking on behalf of H.E. FCPA Fernandes Barasa, Mama Prof. Janet Kassilly Barasa described Jessica as a cheerful, loyal, and dedicated officer whose legacy will continue to inspire many.

From the solemn prayers at Bukhungu Stadium to the tributes in Butere and Matungu, her journey was marked with love and honour from colleagues, leaders, and the community she served so faithfully.

🕊 Rest in eternal peace, Jessica. Your light lives on in our hearts.

This morning, I had the honor of joining Members of Parliament led by Hon. Daniel Nanok, CBS, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Broadcasting and Library Committee, during their official visit to Kakamega County.

Their mission was to assess the status of devolved libraries — Kakamega Library and Lusumu Library in Navakholo — which now play a vital role as knowledge hubs for our people.

I emphasized our commitment to modernizing these centers through digital reading solutions (e-libraries), ensuring access to learning materials beyond the traditional hard copy approach. Since the handover in July 2023, Kakamega has received 3.2 million books, budgeted for further stock, and welcomed partners like ICPAK whose contributions continue to strengthen our facilities.

We also acknowledged challenges such as pending land transfers, which require urgent policy action for standardized library setups nationwide.

Hon. Nanok commended Kakamega’s leadership and affirmed the committee’s role in fostering strong partnerships with counties to grow library services, broadcasting, and research.

Together, we remain committed to empowering our people through knowledge, innovation, and sustainable learning.

Yesterday, I had the honor of officially flagging off a special exercise by our Department of Social Services, Sports, Youth, Gender & Culture—where we are distributing blankets and mattresses to learners living with disabilities across all the 12 sub-counties of Kakamega County.

We began this noble initiative at Siyombe Primary Special Unit in Navakholo, where 15 learners benefited, before moving to Lung’anyiro School for the Disabled in Matungu, Sunrise School in Mumias West, and Rise & Shine School in Mumias East.

I took this opportunity to remind parents that children with disabilities should never be hidden at home. They, too, have equal rights and opportunities, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure they live with dignity and access the support they deserve—including assistive devices and inclusive education.

This program is a direct fulfillment of H.E. FCPA Fernandes Barasa’s manifesto, which prioritizes inclusive education and empowers every learner to enjoy quality learning in a dignified environment.

👉 Today (Wednesday, 10th September), we proceed to Mukhonje Special School (Shinyalu), Busilwa Special School for the Mentally Handicapped (Ikolomani), Ematundu Special Needs (Khwisero), and Butere Mental School (Butere).

👉 Tomorrow (Thursday), we will conclude with visits to Kakamega School for the Deaf (Lurambi), Malava Special Primary School (Malava), Mukuyu Special School (Lugari), and Vincent de Paul Special School (Likuyani).

I was joined yesterday by our Director of Culture, Ms. Gaudencia Otipa, and other senior officials who share in this vision of inclusivity. Together, we are committed to ensuring no child is left behind.

💚 Every child matters. Every child deserves dignity. 💚

Last evening, I had the honour of representing H.E. FCPA Fernandes Barasa at a special dinner hosted by the County Government of Kakamega in appreciation of the KSSSA fraternity, following the successful conclusion of the 2025 National Term 2 Games.

Held at Golf Hotel, the event brought together officials from both the National and County Ministries of Education and Sports, administrators, coaches, and key stakeholders who played a vital role in delivering a seamless and spirited championship across Kakamega.

I congratulated all teams for their discipline and performance, and extended heartfelt kudos to Butere Girls and St. Joseph’s Boys Kitale for winning the national football titles.

On behalf of Governor Barasa, I thanked all our guests and partners who made this event a success. Kakamega has once again affirmed its place as both a sporting powerhouse and a trusted host for national events.

I had the pleasure to join the First Lady, Prof. Janet Barasa, today at the Foundation grounds in Lurambi for a deeply impactful event focused on inclusion, dignity, and service.

Together with Ms. Rani Ramchandani of the Rani Ramchandani Foundation, we supported over 67 persons with disabilities from across Kakamega County with assistive devices including wheelchairs, tricycles, white canes, and crutches.

This moment reminded us all that persons with disabilities are not to be hidden or forgotten. They are to be seen, heard, and supported.

I sincerely thank Ms. Rani for her selfless generosity, which deeply touched the lives of so many. Her vision and that of the First Lady, through the Prof. Janet Barasa Foundation, speak to a shared commitment to uplift the most vulnerable in our society.

I also commend His Excellency Governor FCPA Fernandes Barasa for his continued support and clear commitment to disability inclusion through strategic allocations such as the 12 million shillings set aside in the 2025-2026 budget, provision of farm inputs, license waivers, and county grants.

As the Department of Social Services, we remain committed to working with our partners and stakeholders to ensure no one is left behind.

It was truly an honour to serve.

What a proud day for Kakamega County! 💚⚽

Our teams have made a bold statement at the KSSSA Nationals. Butere Girls dazzled with a commanding 5–0 victory over Dr. Charles, while Musingu Boys stunned Moi Mbiruri with a brilliant 5–1 win. These performances are a true reflection of the talent, discipline, and determination nurtured right here in Kakamega.

Today, I had the pleasure of welcoming teams from across the country to the Mumias Sports Complex. The energy is electric, the competition is fierce, and the spirit of sportsmanship is alive and well.

As the CECM for Youth, Culture, Library, and Sports, I am incredibly proud of our young stars. This is the kind of excellence we strive for—empowering our youth and putting Kakamega on the map.

Governor Barasa delivers, and our champions are making sure the whole country knows it.
