As the long rains continue the department of Agriculture has supplied certified assorted seedlings across the County, through a project initiated by the County known as Affruitation programme. The objective of the programme is to improve food and nutrition security, increase incomes and employment creation. Through extension officers the county is training groups and empowering them to have fruit tree nurseries which are registered and also registered with relevant bodies. So far this Ft 120000 seedlings of assorted fruits have been supplied , another project which the county is focusing on is on Coffee improvement, which mainly is to improve the coffee value chain from production to value addition. The county intends to increase the area under coffee from 896 hectares to 1500 hectares within five years. That means an extra 1.5 million trees of coffee need to be planted in the county. This will be able to increase production to more than 2000 tonnes of clean coffee which will be able required to run a mill profitably. To start with the Government has supplied 100 KGS of seeds to cooperative societies for raising and supply to their members at minimal cost. To expand on the area on top of what the cooperatives have the county Government will continue supplying seedlings at subsidized rates to farmers. Currently 100000 seedlings have been procured and supply is continuing, first batch has gone to baringo north and central sub counties. The other batches will cover the entire county.
