Today, I joined County and National Government officials, stakeholders, and health practitioners led by Cabinet Secretary for Health Aden Duale at State House during the launch of the Every Woman, Every Newborn, Everywhere (EWENE) Acceleration Plan 2026–2028 and the Maternal and Newborn Health Rapid Results Initiative, presided over by President William Ruto.
Bungoma County is among the 20 counties that received critical maternal medical equipment, a major boost towards improving maternal and newborn healthcare services. The initiative seeks to address challenges such as delayed access to quality healthcare, shortages of medical supplies, inadequate healthcare personnel, and financing gaps within the health sector.
Under the leadership of H.E. Governor Kenneth Lusaka, Bungoma County remains committed to strengthening health facilities and ensuring mothers and newborns receive quality, accessible, and dignified healthcare services.
President Ruto announced key interventions including KSh4 billion for the Social Health Authority (SHA), KSh1 billion to KEMSA for life-saving maternal commodities, KSh2.5 billion for family planning commodities, and the recruitment of 5,000 nurses and midwives nationwide.
The EWENE initiative presents an important opportunity for the County and National Governments, alongside stakeholders, to work together in reducing maternal and newborn deaths and securing a healthier future for communities across the country. The programme aims to end preventable maternal and newborn deaths through coordinated efforts across all 47 counties.
