Twenty-three students and three teachers from Gianola Hotel Culinary School visited the amphibious command ship USS Mount Whitney (LCC/JCC 20) to expand their knowledge on being a purser (disbursing officer), as Capt. Karl O. Thomas, commanding officer Mount Whitney, and other Sailors stand by as Military Sealift Command civilian mariner Norlin Ulad, Mount Whitney's purser, answered questions referring to his job. Mount Whitney is the U.S. 6th Fleet's flagship. It is home-ported in Gaeta, Italy, and operates with a hybrid crew of U.S. Sailors and Military Sealift Command civilian mariners. Petty Officer 3rd Class Christian Jones, from Tampa, Fla., uses a speed wrench to load 20 mm high explosive incendiary rounds into an F/A-18E Super Hornet assigned to the Eagles of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 115 aboard the aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73). George Washington departed its forward-operating base of Fleet Activities Yokosuka on June 12, 2011 to patrol the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility.
