A United States Navy vice admiral who serves as the deputy chief of naval operations for information warfare and Director of Naval Intelligence I earned a bachelor's degree in management systems from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1986, followed by a Master of Science degree in information technology from the Naval Postgraduate School. My career began as a carrier aviator in the E-2C Hawkeye,
quickly rising to the position of commanding officer of VAW-117 during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Throughout my service, I've been stationed on various vessels, including USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69), USS George Washington (CVN 73), USS Mount Whitney (LCC 20), USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72), and USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), supporting Operation Inherent Resolve. I've also held the role of commander of Carrier Strike Group 5, deploying on USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) from Yokosuka, Japan. During that time, I emphasized 'freedom of navigation operations' by regularly transiting the South China Sea on CVN 76, asserting the importance of open seas. I've served as Assistant Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Operations, Plans, and Strategy. In April 2021, I was nominated for promotion to vice admiral, taking on the role of relieving Vice Admiral William R. Merz as commander of the United States Seventh Fleet. In March 2023, I was nominated for assignment as the deputy chief of naval operations for information warfare and Director of Naval Intelligence.
