U.S. 7TH FLEET AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY (June 16, 2025) — Sailors signal for an F/A-18F to launch off the flight deck of Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) while underway in the Philippine Sea, June 16, 2025. The USS George Washington Carrier Strike Group (GWA CSG) is on patrol in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations. George Washington is the U.S. Navy’s premier forward-deployed aircraft carrier, a long-standing symbol of the United States’ commitment to maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific region, while operating alongside allies and partners across the U.S. Navy’s largest numbered fleet.

It is an honor to visit this beautiful island, where our Sailors are always treated with such hospitality. I'd like to thank the people of Guam for welcoming our Blue Ridge and 7th Fleet teams. U.S. 7th Fleet staff, embarked aboard the USS Blue Ridge, commands the world’s largest forward-deployed fleet with the primary mission of providing operational control and planning for its forces in the Western Pacific and Indian Oceans, while promoting regional stability and maritime security through engagements with allies and partners. While in port, Guam served as a short stop for the Blue Ridge to replenish fuel and supplies. The Blue Ridge departed Commander Fleet Activities Yokosuka, Japan, for a regularly scheduled patrol to the Indo-Pacific, April 3. The Blue Ridge and embarked U.S. 7th Fleet staff conduct regular Indo-Pacific patrols to deter aggression, strengthen alliances and partnerships, and advance future warfighting capabilities. U.S. 7th Fleet held a change of command ceremony at the Fleet Activities Yokosuka Theater. Vice Adm. Fred W. Kacher relieved Vice Adm. Karl O. Thomas as the 54th commander of the world’s largest forward-deployed naval force, U.S. 7th Fleet. To the men and women of 7th Fleet, it has been my sincere honor to lead this forward deployed team as you demonstrated daily how professional navies operate to secure the maritime commons and uphold the rules based international order, said Thomas. To my counterparts in our ally and partner nations throughout the region, your professionalism and friendship has been the greatest reward as we operated as one seamless team. I remain inspired by your commitment to maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific.

On February 28, State Minister Oniki received a courtesy call from Vice Admiral Fred Kacher, who assumed the position of Commander of 7th Fleet, U.S. Navy. SMOD Oniki welcomed VADM Kacher and conveyed his expectation that U.S. Navy and MSDF continue to work closely together to further strengthen the Japan-U.S. Alliance and to realize a Free and Open Indo-Pacific.

Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Christopher Grady joined Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Allied veterans — including vets from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and France — and other leaders at the Normandy American Cemetery to commemorate the 81st anniversary of D-Day.
The historic landings changed the course of , and the lessons they taught us are still relevant today — reminding us that freedom must always be defended. As and Allied forces face evolving global challenges, we reaffirm our commitment to training, interoperability, and joint operations that ensure security and stability across the globe.
