President Lai Ching-te Receives Hajj Delegation, Emphasizes Continued Efforts to Build a Muslim-Friendly Environment and Calls for Deeper Exchanges Between Taiwan and the Islamic World
President Lai Ching-te, while receiving the 2026 Republic of China Hajj Delegation, said that freedom of religion is a fundamental human right and one of the values that Taiwan holds dear. The government will continue working to create a Muslim-friendly environment, enabling Muslims to live freely and comfortably in Taiwan while embracing diversity. He also expressed hope for deeper exchanges and stronger partnerships between Taiwan and the Islamic world.
In his remarks, President Lai first welcomed the members of the Hajj delegation to the Presidential Office Building and said he was delighted to meet and exchange views with them again. He congratulated the delegation members on successfully completing the Hajj, and thanked the Chinese Muslim Association for its long-standing efforts to promote continued interaction and mutual understanding between Taiwan and the Islamic world.
The President said that freedom of religion is a fundamental human right and a value that Taiwan places great importance on. Taiwan respects diversity and embraces differences, allowing different religions to develop freely on this land and thereby contributing to Taiwan’s rich and diverse cultural landscape. According to Freedom House’s assessment of religious freedom in countries around the world, Taiwan received a perfect score, making it a country with full religious freedom.
President Lai said that the government attaches great importance to the religious and daily needs of Muslims, including halal dietary requirements and prayer practices. In recent years, Taiwan has continued to develop a Muslim-friendly environment in areas ranging from transportation and tourism to dining. Prayer rooms and ablution facilities have been established at major transportation hubs and tourist attractions, including international airports, railway stations, national parks, national scenic areas, and service areas along national highways. Meanwhile, more than 350 restaurants across Taiwan have obtained halal-related certification. The government will continue to improve areas where services remain insufficient and keep working to do better.
The President went on to say that the government is not only committed to creating a welcoming tourism environment, but also to ensuring that people of different faiths and cultural backgrounds can respect one another and live together in peace and security. In the newly released 2026 Global Muslim Travel Index, Taiwan ranked joint third with the United Kingdom among destinations outside the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). This achievement demonstrates the international community’s recognition of Taiwan’s efforts in social safety, freedom of religion, and the development of a Muslim-friendly tourism environment. It also encourages Taiwan to continue strengthening these initiatives and to make the country a destination that Muslim friends can trust and feel increasingly welcome to visit.
President Lai expressed hope that the guests would continue to use their influence to help Taiwan and the Islamic world build greater mutual understanding and deepen their partnership. He said that, through their joint efforts, more Muslim friends would come to know Taiwan and visit the country, contributing further to exchanges and cooperation between Taiwan and the Islamic world. The government will continue working to ensure that Muslims can live freely, comfortably, and in a diverse environment in Taiwan.
Finally, President Lai once again congratulated the guests on successfully completing the Hajj and wished everyone good health, peace, and well-being.
الرئيس لاي تشينغ-ته يستقبل وفد الحج ويؤكد مواصلة الجهود لبناء بيئة صديقة للمسلمين ويدعو إلى تعميق التبادل بين تايوان والعالم الإسلامي
أكد الرئيس لاي تشينغ-ته، خلال استقباله وفد جمهورية الصين للحج لعام 2026، أن الحرية الدينية حق أساسي من حقوق الإنسان، وقيمة توليها تايوان أهمية كبيرة. وأشار إلى أن الحكومة ستواصل جهودها لتوفير بيئة صديقة للمسلمين، بما يتيح لهم العيش بحرية وراحة في تايوان في ظل مجتمع يحتفي بالتنوع. كما أعرب عن أمله في تعزيز التبادل وبناء شراكات أقوى بين تايوان والعالم الإسلامي.
وفي كلمته، رحّب الرئيس لاي في البداية بأعضاء وفد الحج في مبنى المكتب الرئاسي، معربًا عن سعادته بلقائهم مجددًا وتبادل الآراء معهم. كما هنأ أعضاء الوفد على إتمام مناسك الحج بنجاح، ووجّه الشكر إلى الجمعية الإسلامية الصينية على جهودها المتواصلة منذ سنوات في تعزيز التواصل والتفاهم المتبادل بين تايوان والعالم الإسلامي.
وقال الرئيس إن الحرية الدينية حق أساسي من حقوق الإنسان، وإنها من القيم التي توليها تايوان أهمية كبيرة. وأوضح أن تايوان تحترم التنوع وتتقبل الاختلافات، وتتيح لمختلف الأديان ممارسة شعائرها وتطورها بحرية على أرضها، الأمر الذي يسهم في إثراء المشهد الثقافي المتنوع في تايوان. ووفقًا لتقييم منظمة فريدوم هاوس للحرية الدينية في دول العالم، حصلت تايوان على علامة رائعة ، لتكون بذلك من الدول التي تتمتع بحرية دينية كاملة.
وأشار الرئيس لاي إلى أن الحكومة تولي اهتمامًا كبيرًا بالاحتياجات الدينية واليومية للمسلمين، بما في ذلك متطلبات الطعام الحلال وممارسات الصلاة. وخلال السنوات الأخيرة، واصلت تايوان تطوير بيئة صديقة للمسلمين في مجالات متعددة، بدءًا من النقل والسياحة وصولًا إلى المطاعم وخدمات الطعام. وقد جرى إنشاء غرف للصلاة ومرافق للوضوء في عدد من مرافق النقل الرئيسية والمعالم السياحية، بما في ذلك المطارات الدولية ومحطات السكك الحديدية والمتنزهات الوطنية والمناطق السياحية الوطنية ومناطق الاستراحة على الطرق السريعة. وفي الوقت نفسه، حصل أكثر من 350 مطعمًا في مختلف أنحاء تايوان على شهادات مرتبطة بالطعام الحلال. وأكدت الحكومة أنها ستواصل تحسين الخدمات في المجالات التي لا تزال بحاجة إلى مزيد من التطوير، وستواصل العمل على الارتقاء بمستوى الخدمات المقدمة.

وفي ختام كلمته، جدّد الرئيس لاي تهنئته للضيوف على إتمام مناسك الحج بنجاح، متمنيًا للجميع دوام الصحة والسلام والرفاه.
