His Worship the Mayor of St. Ann's Bay Michael Belnavis Mayor Michael Belnavis and five (5) other SAMC representatives, including Councillors Genevor Gordon-Bailey, Genevor Gordon-Bailey JP Dalas Dickenson Dalas Dickenson DepMayor JP and Ian Bell Beecher Town Division paid an official visit to Wilmington, Delaware in the United States from August 27-31, 2026.

St. Ann's Bay and Wilmington are pursuing a sister-city agreement.

The delegates were warmly welcomed by Sister Cities of Wilmington, Mayor of Wilmington John Carney and members of the Jamaican Diaspora, among others.

During the visit, Mayor Belnavis and his team visited Winterthur and One Love Park, and attended diaspora events including the 2026 Delaware Jamaican Independence Celebration.

The SAMC looks forward to a wonderful relationship with the Wilmington City Council.

On Monday August 17, 2026, the St. Ann Municipal Corporation, SAMC in partnership with the Universal Negro Improvement Association, UNIA Jamaica Chapter, UNIA & ACL celebrated the 139th anniversary of the birth of Jamaica's first National Hero, the Rt. Excellent Marcus Mosiah Garvey.

The theme was "Youth Rising with Knowledge: Celebrating the Educational Vision of Marcus Garvey".

The SAMC and UNIA collaborated for the handing over of the Daddy Marcus Nursery Rhymes book and the screening of the Mosiah film, during a ceremony which commenced at 12:30pm. Over 60 students from schools across St. Ann participated.

The Annual Civic Ceremony was held at Lawrence Park, St. Ann's Bay, at 4pm.

The Civic Affairs and Community Relations Committee of the St. Ann Municipal Corporation will be celebrating the life and work of National Hero, the Rt. Excellent Marcus Mosiah Garvey on Monday August 17, 2026.

 The ceremony is set for 4pm at Lawrence Park, St. Ann's Bay.

The theme for the commemoration of the 139th anniversary of his birth is “Youth Rising with Knowledge: Celebrating the Educational Vision of Marcus Garvey”.

The Annual Civic Ceremony commemorating the life and work of National Hero, the Rt. Excellent Marcus Mosiah Garvey, will be held on Monday, August 17, 2026, at Lawrence Park, St. Ann’s Bay commencing at 4:00 p.m. The celebration will mark the 139th anniversary of his birth.

 The Theme for this year’s celebrations is “Youth Rising with Knowledge: Celebrating the Educational Vision of Marcus Garvey”.

Our Guest Speaker will be Dr. David Muhammad.
