Grace, confidence and culture were on full display as the contestants for the 2026 staging of the St. James Festival Queen Competition were officially sashed at the on Wednesday May 21, 2026.

The evening celebrated not only beauty, but purpose, intelligence, leadership and the rich cultural spirit of St. James. Each young woman now begins an important journey of growth, representation and service as they prepare for the competition ahead.

.cllr, commended the contestants for stepping forward to represent their communities and encouraged them to continue being positive role models for young women across the parish.

The St. James Festival Queen Competition remains one of the parish’s most cherished cultural traditions, providing a platform for empowerment, confidence building and community pride.

Futsal continues to grow across western Jamaica, and Montego Bay is proud to be a part of that movement.

On Saturday, May 23, 2026, .cllr, attended the North Western Region leg of the National Futsal Championship at the Freeport Futsal Facility in Montego Bay, where Trelawny Scheemaz emerged as champions in the inaugural regional competition.

Mayor Vernon welcomed the expansion of futsal across the island and reaffirmed his commitment to youth development through sports, noting that meaningful engagement through programmes like these can help strengthen communities, bridge divides, and create positive opportunities for young people.

The Mayor also made a personal contribution of $100,000 towards the staging of the competition as a seed towards the continued growth and development of futsal within the municipality and across Jamaica. ⚽🇯🇲

Montego Bay continues to push forward as a city that supports youth, sport, and community transformation.

Labour Day 2026 was not only about community spirit and volunteerism, but also about taking real action to improve the everyday lives of citizens across Montego Bay.

.cllr, used the opportunity to continue much needed road repairs across several sections of the city through a major patching exercise under the MoBay Step Up initiative.

The works focused on improving damaged road surfaces, enhancing safety for motorists and pedestrians, and addressing concerns raised by residents about the condition of several roadways throughout Montego Bay.

Mayor Vernon noted that while major infrastructural upgrades remain important, smaller improvement projects such as road patching can still make a significant difference in the daily lives of citizens and help improve the overall movement and appearance of the city.

The MoBay Step Up initiative continues to focus on practical solutions aimed at creating a cleaner, safer, and better Montego Bay for all.

Good vibes, meaningful conversations, and community spirit filled the atmosphere on Saturday, May 24, 2026, as .cllr joined residents at the Westgreen Community Meeting and Community Lyme.

Residents had the chance to openly share concerns and ideas surrounding issues such as challenges, road conditions, bulky waste collection, road work, and matters related to Hurricane Melissa grants and compensation, while also enjoying an evening of fellowship and togetherness.

From games and laughter to soup, food, and great conversations, the event reminded everyone that strong communities are built not only through discussion, but through connection.

Mayor Vernon expressed his appreciation to the residents of Westgreen for the warm welcome and continued community spirit as efforts continue to improve lives across Montego Bay.

An evening filled with elegance, talent, and inspiration. 🎹✨

.cllr was pleased to attend the Nina’s Piano Studio Recital held on Saturday, May 24, 2026, at the in Sam Sharpe Square, where young musicians and vocalists delivered remarkable performances before a proud audience of family, friends, and supporters.

The evening opened with welcome greetings by Nadia Howe, followed by prayer offered by and the National Anthem rendered by Kaleb Young.

From classical masterpieces to beloved cultural and contemporary selections, the recital showcased the dedication, discipline, and confidence of Jamaica’s young talent, reminding everyone of the importance of investing in the arts and creative development of our children.

.cllr continues to invest in the future of Montego Bay by supporting innovative partnerships that empower the next generation through education and technology.

Through a partnership with PassPaper Ones, close to 200 students preparing to sit the 2026 CSEC examinations now have access to AI powered tools and a smart web portal designed to help them study past papers more effectively, strengthen their understanding, and improve their chances of earning distinctions this year.

On Friday, May 22, more than 40 students met with Mayor Vernon and the PassPaper Ones team at the for an interactive discussion focused on their progress, experiences, and any challenges they may be facing while using the platform. The session also explored ways to improve the overall learning experience for students as they prepare for one of the most important academic periods of their lives.

Mayor Vernon emphasized the importance of embracing innovation and ensuring that students across Montego Bay have access to modern educational opportunities that can help unlock their full potential.

“Education remains one of the strongest tools we have to transform lives, and when technology is used in the right way, it can open doors for young people that once seemed impossible,” Mayor Vernon shared.

On May 23, 2026, .cllr joined in paying tribute to National Hero The Right Excellent Sam Sharpe during the Workers’ Week 2026 observance, where he read the message from Prime Minister .

The message reflected on the strength, resilience, and determination of the Jamaican worker, while reminding the nation that the future of Jamaica depends on partnership, innovation, fairness, and opportunity for all.

As Montego Bay continues to grow and evolve, Mayor Vernon reaffirmed the importance of empowering workers, investing in people, and ensuring that development remains rooted in dignity, inclusion, and national pride.
