A lot can change in 28 years.

From payphones and cassette tapes to mobile banking and contactless payments, the way Jamaicans save, bank, and move money has evolved dramatically since 1998.

Through it all, one thing has remained constant: JDIC’s commitment to protecting depositors and supporting confidence in Jamaica’s financial system.

Today, we celebrate 28 years of depositor protection and the journey from where we started to where we are now.

For Roshane Taylor, winning the JDIC Logo Redesign Competition was more than a creative achievement. It was a chance to contribute to a brand that had influenced his understanding of marketing and branding from an early age.

Representing the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts, Roshane approached the brief with a clear goal: to help move the JDIC brand forward while respecting the identity that made it memorable in the first place.

For Ayanna Barnett and her co-designer Orin Virgo, the JDIC Logo Redesign Competition became a chance to turn classroom learning into a real-world creative challenge.

Their process began with research into JDIC, its purpose, and the elements of the original logo worth carrying forward. From there, they worked together to develop a fresh interpretation that earned them second place in the competition.

For Ayanna, the experience was also a reminder of what can happen when young creatives are given the opportunity to test their ideas, build confidence, and gain practical experience.

Congratulations again to Ayanna and Orin on an impressive achievement.

From sketching concepts to testing how a logo works in black and white and across different applications, Nicholas Wellington, a student at the University of the West Indies and third-place winner in the JDIC Logo Redesign Competition, approached the brief with a thoughtful, research-driven process.

But the experience went beyond design. Digging deeper into JDIC’s role gave Nicholas a better understanding of what deposit protection means, while the competition also created space to build confidence, make new connections, and strengthen his own creative business.

Third place, but a valuable step forward.

For 28 years, JDIC has helped support confidence and stability in Jamaica’s financial system. This competition gave the next generation a chance to leave their mark on that story.

With 45 submissions from students across seven tertiary institutions, the JDIC Logo Redesign Competition challenged young creatives to preserve the strength of an established brand while imagining how it could evolve for the future.

Our first, second and third place winners brought very different approaches to the brief, from fine art and street art influences, to collaboration and classroom learning, to research-driven design methods. What connected them all was the opportunity to test their ideas in a real-world setting, build confidence in their work, and contribute to the future of the Jamaica Deposit Insurance Corporation

Remember saving one and two silver, putting aside a little lunch money, or keeping coins in a jar at home? It may not have seemed like much, but that was the beginning of a valuable habit.

Saving does not always start with a big amount. It starts with deciding that something, however small, will be put down regularly. Each time you do it, you build discipline, consistency, and a better relationship with money.
