Behind White Storeys, Middle Circle What does is the current and the future fate of a middle lane created as a result of being a backyar

This project is about animating an out- dated organic built form around the Middle Circle Street in the central business district, Connaught Place New Delhi, India. It holds the last thread of the Indian intangible culture ignored by the government organization New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), who overlooks the construction of this site. By the late 2000s, the overall site had lost much of

its old glory. As a part of its 'Return to Heritage Project', NDMC prepared a plan to revamp this Delhi landmark. But even at points, where they are retaining the existing retail or introducing new ones, the aim is to “make it all look the same”. Unlike the exterior streets, this street is a mixture of the old, the new and the broken down. The project takes you through a first hand night time walk experience through a series of courtyards illuminating elements in the space like an old little temple, an ancient tea shop, ac ducts, cable wires etc. narrating stories about cultural transitions through
multi layered occupancy. Only to question towards the end, whether there are ways to preserve certain layers or will they be taken over by a homogenous façade for the place to loose its soul forever.

Behind White Storeys, a creation of Geetanjali Sayal is now a part of a bigger story - Dreamwoven Collective. Hope to connect with you soon here, to deconstruct storeys and construct stories in many spaces which we are surrounded with but go unnoticed. You can find BWS alongwith many other projects on - www.dreamwovencollective.in

And the wait is finally over, Dreamwoven Collective, a recently found collaborative venture is all set to be online, showcasing various projects of the founder Geetanjali Sayal. A huge thanks to friends, family, mentors who have made this happen.

More and more will be added in the times to come, as the we connect with fellow venturers to 'handcraft dreams as spatial journeys'

Capture it, before you no longer have it |
When disorder becomes food for thought, and makes you want to think what else could be here? The beauty in chaos, and the order it can bring within yourself while trying to make sense out it

When the space is just not contained in the proximities of its physical co-ordinates, but travels in the flashes of your imagination, is re-created by the fragments of your memories, association and familiarity
It's amusing to always discover corners or parts of cities which have no prominence in their larger context but become relevant upon discovering them, and remembering them for not fitting into the planned creation of spaces

Behind White Storeys re-incarnating to Cross Pollinat/in Venice, extending its reach beyond and across the physical notion of 'borders, boundaries, territories, nations'
What happens, when edges become fluid, divides become blurry, when it becomes difficult for self to distinguish from geography, in this process of flooding, why give up on becoming water- Where does it finish and you begin?

Revisiting , a migrant tea maker running his shop from a cornered hidden staircase of Connaught Place
And he innocently asked us "humaare paas kya kahani hai" not knowing how extraordinarily he his carrying forward the last few intangible threads of our cultural heritage, giving meaning to a space which would have been swallowed long back, either demolished/ replaced by yet another illegal construction of a branded shop/ bar/ restaurant. We would have lost on this wonderful life story and how he makes chai for many many office workers and shopkeepers in Connaught Place

The story goes on, yet again yet again

Stay tuned for an upcoming project, the voices of Middle Circle will be heard again !

How can the inner hidden redundant courtyards of the Middle Circle rethought of?
A possibility is to look at simpler interventions which can induce ongoing activities to breathe life into the decaying "structures" of Connaught Place, where the spaces are still in place but out of time, which shouldn't necessarily be replaced by the blingy bars and restaurants like the outer "facades". Or overburdening our heritage structures with functions which don't belong to them, which deteriorate them further only for them to collapse in the end
