World Bicycle Day. 🚲
This photo was taken at the legendary Belvédère Hotel on the Furka Pass, Switzerland, during the return leg of a solo bikepacking journey from Padova back to Chamonix.
A journey across mountain passes, valleys, countries and cultures, powered by nothing more than two wheels and a pair of legs.
The bicycle remains one of the most extraordinary inventions humanity has ever created.
It allows a child to explore the end of their street.
It allows a commuter to move through a city under their own power.
It allows an adventurer to cross entire mountain ranges at a pace that reveals every detail of the landscape.
Fast enough to travel far.
Slow enough to understand where you are.
Long before bike parks, races, power meters and social media, the bicycle was a vehicle for freedom, curiosity and discovery.
And perhaps that is still its greatest purpose.
On this World Bicycle Day, let’s celebrate not only cycling as a sport, but the bicycle itself: one of humanity’s simplest, most elegant and most powerful tools for exploring the world.
Happy World Bicycle Day. 🌍🚲
