Botswana High Commission to India Hosts Business Seminar on Doing Business in Botswana
The Botswana High Commission to India recently hosted a Business Seminar focused on exploring the opportunities and advantages of conducting business in Botswana. Attended by prominent representatives from the Indian business community, the Seminar showcased Botswana's potential across various sectors, fostering collaboration and investment between the two nations.
The seminar welcomed delegates from diverse sectors including aviation, mineral beneficiation, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, and green energy. Notably, Ethiopian Airlines participated as a crucial partner, emphasizing its commitment to facilitating seamless business travel between India and Botswana, thereby fostering enhanced business connectivity.
His Excellency, Mr. Gilbert Shimane Mangole, the High Commissioner of Botswana to India, provided an insightful overview of Botswana's geopolitical and socio-economic standing on the global stage. Highlighting Botswana's reputation as one of the safest countries in Africa with an exceptional quality of life, he underscored the government's dedication to fostering a private - sector led economy.
Mr. Julius Tsheko, Director of International Business and Botswana's Trade Attache based in Delhi, elaborated on the advantages of investing and living in Botswana. He emphasized Botswana's attributes including political stability, transparent governance, sound fiscal policies, and a conducive investment climate. Additionally, he highlighted incentives for Indian businesses, such as low tax rates, full repatriation of profits, and access to regional markets through favorable trade agreements.
Key sectors for investment were identified, with a focus on agriculture, manufacturing, and diamond jewelry manufacturing, aimed at achieving self-sufficiency and promoting Botswana as an export-led economy. Delegates appreciated the value-added services provided by the Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC), including streamlined processes for company registration, banking, and immigration facilitation.
The representative from Ethiopian Airlines reiterated the airlineβs commitment to enhancing air connectivity between India and Botswana, with convenient routes via Addis Ababa from four Indian cities. The airline expressed readiness to support business and tourist travelers and facilitate delegations' visits to Botswana in the coming months.
The Business Seminar served as a platform to strengthen bilateral ties and encourage mutual collaboration between India and Botswana. With shared aspirations for economic growth and development, both nations are poised to capitalize on the opportunities presented by this strategic partnership.
