FOREST FIRE EMERGENCY – NILGIRIS REGION

The Indian Social Welfare and Development Council expresses deep concern over the ongoing forest fire incidents in the Nilgiris forest division.

The wildfire, which started in the forest areas between Pykara and Parsons Valley, has been spreading rapidly due to high temperatures, strong winds, and low humidity, causing severe damage to the ecosystem and wildlife.

More than 500 personnel, including Forest Department officials, Fire and Rescue Services, and local support teams, are actively engaged in continuous efforts to control the fire.

Multiple fire-fighting vehicles and ground teams are deployed, working day and night under challenging conditions.

Despite attempts to control the fire through aerial operations, strong winds have limited such efforts. Ground-level containment measures are continuing intensively.

Current Situation:

• Approximately 1000 acres of forest land affected
• Loss of biodiversity and natural habitat
• Small wildlife severely impacted
• Displacement of animals to nearby human settlements
• Increased risk of human-wildlife conflict

Public Advisory:

All citizens are requested to remain alert and cooperate with authorities.

• Do not enter forest areas
• Avoid any activity that may trigger fire
• Report fire incidents immediately
• Support environmental protection efforts

FOREST FIRE AWARENESS INITIATIVE

The Indian Social Welfare and Development Council expresses serious concern over the increasing incidents of forest fires in the Nilgiris region.

Forest fires pose a significant threat to biodiversity, wildlife, natural ecosystems, and human life.

Many such incidents are caused due to human negligence and lack of awareness.

All citizens are hereby urged to act responsibly and follow preventive measures to protect our forests.
Do not light fires in forest areas.

Do not throw cigarette butts or flammable materials.
Report any signs of fire immediately.

Collective action and public cooperation are essential to preserve ecological balance and safeguard our environment.
