A “MEGA INSTITUTIONAL PLANTATION DRIVE” to foster environmental stewardship was successfully conducted today on 27-03-2026 at “KIDS CAREER PUBLIC SCHOOL KAPRIN” under flagship initiative “GREEN J&K DRIVE 2026”. The drive was inaugurated by Range Officer Shopian who planted the first sapling, a native “Deodar”. The event saw the active participation of over 400 students, faculty members and local inhabitants, resulting in the planting of saplings across the institutional premises. Speaking on the occasion, Range Officer Shopian emphasized that the goal of this event is not just to plant trees, but to cultivate a culture of responsibility. He further reiterated that such type of plantation events leaves a lasting, living legacy for the batches to come. At the end of the event, students also participated in a “Green Pledge” promising to reduce single use plastics and advocates for sustainable practices within their homes

On the eve of World Environment Day, the Shopian Forest Division organized a mega polythene-free cleanliness drive at Padpawan, setting the tone for similar drives conducted across 15 forest blocks in collaboration with local schools. Additionally, a plantation drive was carried out in the Court Complex, Shopian. The theme for this year — “Beat Plastic Pollution” — was actively promoted throughout the events, emphasizing the urgent need to eliminate plastic waste and protect our environment.

Worthy Chief Conservator of Forests, Kashmir visits Shopian Forest Division to take stock of development works, plantation schemes and to discuss eco-restoration projects for Shopian District.
Mr Irfan Rasool Wani, worthy Chief Conservator of Forests Kashmir was accompanied by Dr. Arshdeep Singh, Conservator South circle, Mr Abid Ali Lone, DFO Shopian and DD FPF .On the occasion, CCF (K) participated in a plantation drive under the banner "Ek ped Maa ke naam" at Zawoora and also interacted with the media about activities being taken up forest health restoration as well as providing local community with better environment. He called for plantation of native fruit plants in forest fringe areas besides forest species as livelihood support measure. This was followed by interaction with locals population and Forest Frontline staff at Zampthri Shopian. CCF Kashmir called upon the Frontline staff to ensure Forest Protection and rejuvenation is done with utmost dedication and zeal by achieving active co-operation of public at large. CCF Kashmir also visited the Nagar Van site at Yarwan Pulwama to take stock of work being undertaken and issued spot directions to the concerned officers to complete the work in a time bound manner. CCF Kashmir had a detailed discussion with local people at CB Nath Yarwan regarding eco- development and sought their participation for preservation and judicious use of natural resources.

A one-day workshop on Forest Fire Management and Mitigation Measures was conducted at the Divisional Forest Office, Padpawan Shopian. In the event, the Divisional Forest Officer, Deputy Director of the Forest Protection Force, Range Officers, Medical doctors, and officials from the Fire and Emergency Department deliberated on various aspects of forest fire prevention, suppression techniques, safety protocols, and inter-agency coordination.

Discussions focused on early detection mechanisms, the role of modern technology, and community participation in wildfire management. Experts also shared insights on strategic firebreaks, controlled burning, and the ecological impact of forest fires. Practical demonstrations were presented to enhance field officials’ understanding of effective fire mitigation strategies.

Additionally, forest field officials received hands-on training in CPR and first aid, ensuring they are equipped to respond to medical emergencies during firefighting operations.

The workshop aimed to enhance preparedness, strengthen response mechanisms, and foster better collaboration among departments to safeguard forest ecosystems from fire hazards.
