*Participation in Parliamentary Standing Committee Study Tour*

It was a privilege to attend the One-Day Study Tour of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Food Processing, Government of India, held at NIFTEM, Kundli, Haryana on 4th June 2026.

The programme was graced by Dr. C. Paulrasu Ji, Worthy Secretary (Horticulture), Government of Himachal Pradesh, along with Dr. Satish Kumar Sharma Ji, Director of Horticulture, Himachal Pradesh; Dr. Vidya Prakash Bains Ji, Additional Director of Horticulture; Dr. Sudershana Negi Ji, Deputy Director Horticulture, Shimla; Dr. Jagdish Sharma (SMS Horticulture); Dr. Kushal Singh Mehta (SMS Horticulture); and Dr. Mohan Mehta (HDO).

The deliberations focused on strengthening infrastructure, diversification, ease of doing business, and exploring opportunities for the growth of the food processing sector in India. Special emphasis was laid on the effective implementation of policies and programmes benefiting Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and other marginalized communities.

Such interactions provide valuable insights for enhancing horticulture, agriculture, value addition, and food processing initiatives in Himachal Pradesh, thereby creating greater opportunities for farmers, entrepreneurs, and rural youth.

The Progeny-cum-Demonstration Orchard at Gaura, District Solan achieved a significant milestone with the first harvest of blueberry varieties Emerald, Legacy, and Misty on 16 May 2026. The plantation, established in November 2024, represents the first organised blueberry cultivation initiative of its kind in the region.

The encouraging performance of the crop under local agro-climatic conditions highlights the immense potential of blueberry cultivation as a high-value horticultural enterprise in Himachal Pradesh. The successful harvest is expected to create awareness and inspire progressive farmers to adopt blueberry cultivation for crop diversification and enhanced farm income.

दिनांक 14.06.2026 को सचिव कृषि व बागवानी श्री सी.पॉलरासु द्वारा करसोग क्षेत्र में उद्यान विभाग के अंतर्गत स्थापित पीईक्यू साइट का निरीक्षण किया गया। इस दौरान उन्होंने साइट पर चल रही विभिन्न गतिविधियों, पौध सामग्री की गुणवत्ता, आधारभूत सुविधाओं तथा प्रबंधन व्यवस्थाओं का विस्तृत जायजा लिया।
सचिव महोदय ने निरीक्षण के दौरान विभागीय अधिकारियों को निर्देश दिए कि उच्च गुणवत्ता वाले पौधों की उपलब्धता सुनिश्चित की जाए तथा किसानों को समयबद्ध एवं बेहतर सेवाएं प्रदान की जाएं। उन्होंने पीईक्यू साइट में पौध उत्पादन, रख-रखाव एवं स्वच्छता व्यवस्था पर संतोष व्यक्त करते हुए भविष्य में इसे और सुदृढ़ बनाने पर बल दिया।
इस अवसर पर अधिकारियों द्वारा सचिव महोदय को साइट पर उपलब्ध सुविधाओं, आयातित पौध सामग्री की निगरानी, रोग नियंत्रण उपायों तथा किसानों को दी जा रही तकनीकी सहायता के बारे में जानकारी प्रदान की गई।
सचिव महोदय ने कहा कि प्रदेश में बागवानी क्षेत्र को मजबूत बनाने के लिए गुणवत्तायुक्त पौध सामग्री की महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका है तथा विभाग किसानों की आय बढ़ाने हेतु निरंतर प्रयासरत है।
निरीक्षण के दौरान अतिरिक्त निदेशक उद्यान डॉ वी पी वैंस , विषय विशेषज्ञ उद्यान डॉ चमेली नेगी डॉ सुरेश नेगी,उद्यान विकास अधिकारी डॉ नारायण ठाकुर, डॉ विजय के साथ साथ कृषि विभाग करसोग से विषय विशेषज्ञ कृषि डॉ परवीन गुप्ता, कृषि विकास अधिकारी डॉ सुरेश चंदेल, डॉ आकेश व अन्य अधिकारी एवं कर्मचारी भी उपस्थित रहे।

A New Milestone in High-Value Horticulture – Solan Leads the Way!

The Department of Horticulture, District Solan, is delighted to share encouraging progress under the Front Line Demonstration (FLD) component of the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH), launched in 2025 to promote high-value fruit crops in the region.

Success Story from the Field
Sh. Rameshwar Verma, a progressive farmer from Dhangeel village (Kandaghat), has successfully established 100 blueberry plants with technical support from the department. The plantation is showing excellent growth, and the first harvest is expected this year—a promising step toward crop diversification and higher income.

Positive Results Across the District

The FLD programme, implemented at multiple locations in Solan, is yielding impressive results. Many demonstration sites are performing well, with several already entering the fruiting stage.

🌿 चेरी पौधों में शाखाओं को मोड़ने (Bending) की सलाह 🌿
जल्दी फलन (Early Bearing) एवं स्पर निर्माण के लिए
📍 क्या करें?
नई बढ़ रही शाखाओं को 45°–60° कोण पर सावधानी से नीचे की ओर मोड़ें।
बहुत अधिक तीखा मोड़ न दें, अन्यथा शाखा टूट सकती है।
शाखा को रस्सी/टेप से सहारा देकर स्थिर रखें।
📍 कब करें?
सक्रिय वृद्धि अवस्था (मई–जून) में
जब शाखा लचीली (soft wood stage) हो
📍 क्यों करें?
✔ एपिकल डॉमिनेंस कम होती है
✔ साइड बड्स सक्रिय होते हैं
✔ स्पर (fruiting spurs) का विकास तेज होता है
✔ जल्दी फल लगना शुरू होता है
📍 सावधानियां
रोगग्रस्त/कमजोर शाखाओं पर यह प्रक्रिया न करें
अत्यधिक झुकाव से बचें
समय-समय पर बंधन (tie) की जांच करें
