Historically In Sambhal, poetry was part of everyday life — every home had its own voice.
The beautiful traditions of ‘Sehra’ and ‘Rukhsati’.
Sehra is sung or read at the groom’s house to celebrate the joy of marriage. The Sehra describes happiness, bonding, and the warm welcome of a new family member. Usually, a poet close to the family pens it, capturing the love and excitement of the day.
Contrary, Rukhsati’ which would be read at the bride’s home at the time of Nikah/Vidai. Rukhsati would generally cover the happiness, sigh of relief, going, separation and best wishes for a new life waiting, and the heartfelt prayers from the parents and family.
