3 Hotels/ Kalyan Mandaps Sealed in Bargarh for Violating Pollution Norms
In a joint enforcement drive, the District Administration and State Pollution Control Board Regional office sambalpur Monday sealed three Hotel and Kalyan Mandap units in Bargarh Town for operating without Consent to Operate (CTO).
SPCB said it is mandatory for all hotels and kalyan mandaps to obtain CTO under Sections 25/26 of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 and Section 21 of the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981 for wastewater discharge and flue gas emissions.
Acting on closure directions issued on 25.06.2026, the following units were closed:
1. M/s Hotel J.J. Residency at Bhatli Chowk, near Friends Villa
2. M/s Annapurna Palace at Ward No. 16, Main Road
3. M/s Hotel VD Palace at Bhatli Chowk.
The operation was carried out by a joint team led by Sri Nishikant Meher, Addl. Tahsildar, Bargarh. Others present included Sri Alok Mahalik, ASI, Town P.S. Bargarh, a representative from TPWODL, Bargarh, and officials from SPCB Regional Office, Sambalpur — Smt. A.K. Minj, DES; Sri M. Pradhan, AES; Er. R.K. Panda, AEE; and Sri B. Nayak, FA.
Authorities warned that no hotel or kalyan mandap will be allowed to function without valid CTO.
The sealed units can resume only after obtaining consent from the State Pollution Control Board. Legal action will be initiated against further violations.
