76TH VAN MAHOTSAV 2025 CELEBRATION AT HAOREIBI, IMPHAL WEST, MANIPUR

The Central Forest Divisional, Forest Department, Manipur, and Nature Club, Haoreibi, organized a joint awareness cm tree plantation program as part of the 76th Van Mahotsav 2025 Festival of Forests on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at Haoreibi, Imphal West District, Manipur. This event aligns with the national theme "EK PED MAA KA NAAM-2.0" -(Lend hand to make our Manipur Greener), encouraging citizens to plant trees in honor of their mothers while promoting environmental conservation.

The program included a tree plantation drive where participants enthusiastically planted various tree species, including ornamental trees, in Haoreibi Awang Leikai Pukhrichou Mapal. Speakers from the Forest Department staff, Leimapokpam Sanju Singh, Nature Club Advisor Yendrembam Jiten Meitei, Haoreibi Meira-Paibi President Sharungbam Maipakpi Devi, and Nature Club President Sharungbam Ruhikumar Singh, discussed topics such as tree plantation, eco-club awareness, and community engagement on environmental issues, emphasizing the importance of collective action in protecting the environment.

Young Green Warriors of Nature Club shared insights on environmental policies and the need for their effective implementation to protect Manipur's natural resources. Nature Club presented a resolution requesting the government to enact the "Law for the Protection of Trees in Manipur," highlighting the importance of safeguarding trees for future generations. Nature Club will seek cooperation from all stakeholders for the enactment of the said Tree Protection Law for the benefit of the state and to save the environment. A memorandum was submitted to the government (vide Ref No. NC/2023/Env./02 Imphal dated 27/01/2023).

World Environment Day, 2024

In continuation of its series of activities, members of Nature Club, Haoreibi, Imphal West joined the world community in celebrating World Environment Day, 2024, under the theme “Our Land, Our Future” by collecting plastic wastes, brought to by the recent flood,from public places in Haoreibi and also from the right bank of Imphal river passing through Haoreibi. The main agenda of the campaign was to spread awareness to the general public on the hazardous effects of plastic wastes to soil and ultimately to our scarce land.
Surprisingly,Green Warriors of the Club were able to collect plastic wastes numbering around 70 full garbage bags from such a limited area. It is highly questionable the proper implementation of Manipur Plastic Policy, which has been in implementation since July 1, 2022 and the concern of the general public for our environment.
The collected plastic wastes were later on disposed off properly with the help of Samurou Municipal Council.

Nature Club, Haoreibi Felicitates Licipriya Kangujam
In continuation of extending its solidarity to internationally acclaimed climate change activist Licipriya Kangujam by welcoming her at Imphal International Airport on 15th December, 2023, Nature Club, Haoreibi felicitates her today i.e. 18.12.2023 at Haoreibi Kangjeibung Community Hall, Imphal West, Manipur.
She along with members of Nature Club, Haoreibi planted a sapling in the premises of the community hall to mark her historic visit to the village. She highlighted the importance of fighting together against the injustices and accordingly appealed to join her for the cause she is fighting. Members and well-wishers of Nature Club, Haoreiobi Apunba Lup and Haoreibi Apunba Meira Paibi vowed to extend their support till the common goal is achieved. More than thousand people who gathered for the programme shouted slogans such as “IMA LEIPAK NA YAIFARE”; “LICIPRIYA NA YAIFARE”.
President of Nature Club, Haoreibi sought support from general public, particularly from Licipriya Kangujam, to its endeavours to protect and conserve our environment specifically for preserving historic Chandranadi (Lilahkhong) River and for enacting a Tree Protection Act in Manipur.

Nature Club,Haoreibi lauds climate activist Licypriya

Imphal, December 12 2023: Nature Club, Haoreibi has commended climate activist Licypriya Kangujam for her activities at the Climate Change Conference COP28 being held in Dubai.

In a release, Club president Sh Ruhikumar pointed out that ex*****on of infrastructure projects, extraction of coal, exploration of oil and natural gas under the pretext of development are some prime causes for the adverse change in climatic condition across the world.

While noting that the on-going ethnic conflict in the state is impeding forest conservation efforts; he cautioned that launch of new road projects sans proper planning and environmental assessment, and failure to check deforestation will further deepen the climate crisis.

Condition of Chandranadi (Lilahkhong) River Assessed
As a part of the “Save Chandranadi ( Lilah-khong) campaign”, Hon’ble Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba along with members of Nature Club, Haoreibi & Haoreibi Apunba Lup carried out an assessment of the Chandranadi river on 21st January 2023.
Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba expressed his dismal over the pathetic condition of the river. He appealed to the communities settling along the river to stop encroaching and also not to dump domestic wastes and garbages into the river. He also mentioned the necessity of taking up steps immediately to save the historic river.
On the side-line of the survey, talking to the spectators of the ongoing 4th Chandranadi Trophy football tournament at Haoreibi Kangjeibung, he assured to take up the issue of Chandranadi river with concern authorities in order to preserve the river and its glory.
It is to mention here that Nature Club, Haoreibi has been campaigning to save the river. In an earlier occasion, a memorandum ( copy enclosed) was submitted to Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba. Today’s assessment was carried out as gesture of his concern over the matter and follow-up of the memorandum.
Here we reinterred that Nature Club, Haoreibi is molded with the motto of “A Greener and Cleaner Earth is Possible” SANGHANLASI, NALHANLASI, LAMDAMSE, keeping the mother earth Green, Neat & Clean and has been fighting for the cause.
