Red sandalwood, also referred to as "red gold," is exclusively found in the Seshachalam hills of Andhra Pradesh, India. It is highly sought after in China and Japan, where furniture crafted from it is regarded as a status symbol. Its price in the international market ranges from ₹50 lakh to ₹1 crore per ton, which is why it is heavily smuggled and is now on the verge of extinction.
