To
The Hon’ble Prime Minister of India
Narendra Damodar Das Modi
Prime Minister’s Office
New Delhi
Your Excellency,
Subject: Humble proposal to dedicate Indira Gandhi International Airport to Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji on the occasion of his 350th Birth Anniversary,
Respected Hon’ble Prime Minister,
With utmost reverence and humility, I, Jagjit Singh Milkha, Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from 97 Sardulgarh Vidhan Sabha, District Mansa, Punjab, in the last General Assembly Election, take this opportunity to submit this respectful representation before your esteemed office.
Under the guidance and inspiration of my revered mentor Acharya Shri Dr. Suraj Kumar Pathak, I wish to place before you an ideological and historical matter of national importance, particularly relevant in the context of Punjab and the broader spiritual heritage of India.
Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur, the Ninth Sikh Guru, stands as one of the greatest martyrs in the civilizational history of Bharat. He sacrificed his entire life—not for any sect or community—but for the protection of Dharma, freedom of conscience, and the preservation of Sanatan Sanskriti. His martyrdom was a universal sacrifice for humanity.
Born into the illustrious family of Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji lived a life of deep spirituality, meditation, and fearlessness. His family life itself was an embodiment of sacrifice and moral courage. His noble son, Guru Gobind Singh Ji, later laid the foundation of the Khalsa Panth, inspired by the supreme sacrifice of his father.
At a time when religious persecution was rampant, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji stood as a shield for the oppressed. He voluntarily offered himself to the Mughal authorities and accepted martyrdom in Delhi in 1675, so that people of different faiths—particularly Kashmiri Pandits—could freely practice their religion. His sacrifice was not for power or position, but for the eternal values of Dharma, tolerance, and human dignity.
Hon’ble Prime Minister, on the sacred occasion of the 350th Birth Anniversary of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, I humbly request your visionary leadership to consider dedicating the Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, in his revered name. Such a historic step would be in the same spirit as earlier national initiatives, such as the renaming of major institutions and infrastructure after great national icons like Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Port Trust, thereby restoring civilizational justice and historical truth.
Delhi, the land where Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji attained martyrdom, would find profound symbolic and moral resonance if its principal international gateway bears his name. It would send a powerful message to the world about India’s commitment to religious freedom, spiritual courage, and respect for its martyrs.
On this final day of the year, I place this earnest appeal before you with full faith in your leadership and your dedication to honoring India’s timeless heroes.
I shall remain ever grateful for your kind consideration.
With highest regards and respectful salutations,
Yours sincerely,
Jagjit Singh Milkha
