3/7/1866 ല്‍ മദിരാശി ഗവര്‍ണ്ണര്‍ പാലക്കാടിനെ ഒരു പട്ടണമായി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു. 11/9/1912 ല്‍ ആണ് നഗര പിതാവിനെ കൌണ്‍സിലംഗങ്ങള്‍ തെരഞ്ഞെടുക്കുന്ന രീതി തുടങ്ങിയത്. 1938 ല്‍ 28 വാര്‍ഡുകളും, 1973 ല്‍ 32 വാര്‍ഡുകളും, 1978 മുതല്‍ 36 വാര്‍ഡുകളുമായി നഗരസഭ കൌണ്‍സില്‍ വിപുലീകൃതമായി.

Kalpathi Ratholsavam (Kalpathi Chariot Festival) is an annual Hindu Temple festival in the Kalpathi village of Palakkad district in Kerala state, south India.The festival is at the Sri Visalakshi Sametha Sri Viswanatha Swamy temple where the deities are Lord Siva (Lord Viswanatha) and his consort Visalakshi, another name for Parvathi.

Nearest railway station: Palakkad Junction - 1 km
Nearest airport: Coimbatore International Airport - 55 km

The festival is conducted over a period of 10 days, usually in the month of November. During this time, 5 rathas of the 5 deities of Kalpathy village come together and circumvent the village in a grand procession.This is known as 'devarathasamgamam'.

Ramassery idly is preparing in a specially designed mud pots.The major ingredients of this idly are rice and black gram.For every 1Kg of rice 150 gm of black gram is needed.

The spicy powder ,Chamanthy pody ,made out of roasted rice,pepper,broken black gram and red chilly and coconut oil is the ideal combination for this food item.

Vaidyanathapura Rama Krishna Iyer (15 November 1914 – 4 December 2014), popularly known as V. R. Krishna Iyer, was a former judge in the Supreme Court of India. He was born at Vaidyanathapuram near Palakkad, in Malabar region of Kerala in a Tamil Brahmin family, but grew up at Koyilandy, also in the erstwhile Malabar district. In 1952, he was elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly; in 1957, he became a minister in the first Communist government in Kerala, serving until 1959. Having been the minister of law, power, prisons, irrigation and social welfare in the Government of Kerala, he was instrumental in bringing about many significant changes in these sectors. In 1973, he was sworn in as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India; as of 2011, he is the last but one Supreme Court judge to have previously served as a politician. He was conferred with Padma Vibhushan in the year 1999.

He died due to renal and cardiac failure at 3:30 PM on 4th December 2014.

T.N.SESHAN

Tirunellai Narayana Iyer Seshan (born 15 December 1932) is a retired Indian Administrative Service officer, who served as the 10th Chief Election Commissioner of India (1990–96) and the 18th Cabinet Secretary (1989). He is widely known for his commitment to and was largely successful in ending electoral malpractices in India.

As the Chief Election Commissioner of Election Commission of India he introduced major electoral reforms and redefined the status and visibility of the Election Commission of India.

He completed his schooling from Basel Evangelical Mission Higher Secondary School and intermediate from Government Victoria College, Palakkad.

Nelliyampathy (also spelled Nelliampathi) is a hill station 60 kilometres (37 mi) from Palakkad in Kerala, India. It is surrounded by tea and coffee plantations. The village has its own gram panchayat and forms a part of the Chittur taluk. Pothundy dam, which was constructed in the 19th century, is the entrance to Nelliyampathy. A viewpoint called Seethargund is situated 8 km away from Nelliyampathy. Seethargund, according to beliefs is the place where Lord Rama, Laxmana and Seetha rested during their exile . Another attraction of Nelliyampathy is Kesavam para viewpoint. The film Mrigaya starring Mammootty was shot here.
