District-Level Committee Meeting on Jal Jeevan Mission and Swachh Bharat Mission Held under Pakyong District

Pakyong, June 01 (IPR): The District-Level Committee Meeting on the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin (SBM-G), was chaired by District Collector, Pakyong, Ms Pari Bishnoi, at the Rurban Complex, Pakyong today.

The meeting aimed to assess the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 and Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin and strengthen coordination among stakeholders, enhance documentation and reporting mechanisms through the online portal, while focusing on sustainable management of water supply and sanitation infrastructure across the district.

The meeting was attended by Additional District Collector (ADC), Pakyong, Mr Pulkit; ADC (Development), Mr Sangay Gyatso Bhutia; Chief Education Officer, Mr Narayan Mishra; DE Zilla, Mr Kailash Sharma; District Information Officer, Information and Public Relations Department, Ms Deeki D Bhutia; Welfare Officer, Social Welfare Department, Ms Sunita Dahal; Block Development Officers (BDOs) from various blocks, Assistant Directors (PRI), along with representatives from Gram Panchayat Units (GPUs), members from District Water and Sanitation Committee(DWSC ) and officials from various line departments.

Addressing the gathering, DC Pakyong, Ms Pari Bishnoi highlighted the significance of both JJM and SBM as flagship Government of India initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life through access to safe drinking water and better sanitation practices. She stressed the importance of understanding the roles and responsibilities of all stakeholders involved in implementing the schemes and underscored the need for utilisation of the resources through proper planning, operation and maintenance mechanisms, and user-charge systems supported by Panchayat tide funds.

In addition, she presented a detailed overview of the Panchayat Meeting Action Plan and elaborated on the objectives and key features of JJM 2.0. She informed that the mission focuses on ensuring that every rural household has access to a functional tap connection supplying safe and adequate drinking water. She also stressed the need for rectification in the time of system breakdowns and strengthening the ownership of rural water supply infrastructure by Gram Panchayats through effective Operation and Maintenance (O&M) mechanisms.

Highlighting the responsibilities of Gram Panchayats, she called for focus on water quality monitoring, accountability, asset management, equitable service delivery, human resource development and strengthening village-level water governance structures.

She explained the fields to be updated on the JJM portal, including household and institutional details, source-to-tap asset registers, water quality data, Sujalam Shakti initiatives, functionality and service delivery records, O&M finances, user-charge systems, grievance redressal mechanisms, and repair and escalation trackers.

Further, DC Pakyong advised all stakeholders to seek clarifications whenever required and directed every Gram Panchayat to establish Sujalam Shakti Committees and nominate Nal Jal Mitras to strengthen grassroots-level implementation and monitoring of the mission.

Additionally, ADC Pakyong, Mr Pulkit urged the stakeholders to accelerate the implementation of both SBM and JJM, while emphasising on the importance of updating information on the JJM portal to showcase the district’s progress at the national level.

He also encouraged the conduct of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) activities across Gram Panchayats to raise awareness about water and sanitation. He further stressed the need to identify and train local manpower, including barefoot engineers to support Jal Jeevan Mission activities and initiatives such as Sujalam Shakti and Nal Jal Mitra.

ADC (Development), Mr Sangay Gyatso Bhutia, highlighted the importance of the Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin and elaborated on the provisions of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016, noting that GPUs would serve as key implementing agencies. He outlined the responsibilities of local bodies, institutions and communities in ensuring effective waste management at the grassroots level.

He stressed the need for proper waste segregation, identification of Bulk Waste Generators (BWGs), and adoption of scientific waste management practices to create cleaner and healthier villages. He then highlighted the importance of systematic waste collection, recycling and environmentally safe disposal mechanisms.

In addition, he shared various action plans and provisions being implemented under SBM-G and called for a collective effort from all stakeholders, concerned departments and Village Water and Sanitation Committees to ensure the successful implementation of JJM 2.0, supported by proper documentation and timely data entry on the portal.

District Engineer, Zilla, Mr Kailash Sharma, presented an overview of the works undertaken under Jal Jeevan Mission in the district and informed on the various measures adopted by the department to strengthen the implementation of JJM 2.0.

During the meeting, various deliberations on portal management, block-level responsibilities, provisions and capacity-building measures required for the successful implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 and Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin in the district were discussed.

Help Desk for SIR 2026 Established at DAC Pakyong to Assist Electors

Pakyong, June 1 (IPR): In a move aimed at facilitating implementation of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026, a Help Desk has been established at the District Administration Centre (DAC), Pakyong, to assist the public with queries and information related to the electoral revision process in Pakyong District.

The Help Desk has been set up to provide guidance and support to citizens regarding SIR-related matters, ensuring public awareness and participation in the revision of electoral rolls. Officials informed that the facility will serve as a point of contact for electors seeking clarification on aspects of the revision process.

The desk offers information regarding the designated Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), and Booth Level Officers (BLOs) functioning across the district. Additionally, records and references pertaining to the Special Intensive Revision conducted in 2002 have also been made available for public access and reference.

The Help Desk will remain operational on all working days from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Citizens may also seek assistance or information by contacting the Help Desk at 03592-200024.

The initiative is expected to strengthen public outreach and ensure that electors receive assistance during the ongoing SIR 2026 process in Pakyong District.

Pakyong District Athletics Meet-cum-Selection Trial Held

Pakyong, May 31 (IPR): The Pakyong District Athletics Association, in coordination with the Department of Sports & Youth Affairs, conducted the District Athletics Meet-cum-Selection Trial at the St. Xavier’s School Ground, Pakyong today.

A total of 135 athletes, including boys and girls, participated in events under the following categories:

1. Under-14 Boys & Girls
2. Under-16 Boys & Girls
3. Open Men & Women

Selected athletes and event winners will represent Pakyong District at the upcoming State Athletics Meet, scheduled to begin on June 4 at Resh*thang Sports Complex.

The President of the District Athletics Association, Mr Pincho Bhutia, conveyed appreciation to North East Pharma Pack, Pacheykhani, for their support. He also acknowledged the valuable guidance extended by ADC (Development) Mr Sangay Gyatso Bhutia and thanked the Principal of St. Xavier’s School.

The programme was attended by Assistant Directors Manoj Gurung, Robert Lepcha, and Bharat Tamang. Coaches Tashi Rana and D.K. Chettri, es**rt teachers, Physical Education teachers, and officials of the Department of Sports & Youth Affairs were also present.

House-to-House Enumeration Form Distribution Under SIR 2026 Commences in Pakyong District

Pakyong, May 30 (IPR): The distribution of house-to-house Enumeration Forms under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026 has officially commenced in Pakyong District, covering AC-18 West Pendam, AC-19 Rhenock, AC-20 Chujachen, AC-21 Gnathang-Machong, and AC-22 Namcheybung. The exercise is being undertaken as part of a comprehensive effort to update and verify electoral records to ensure accuracy and inclusiveness in the electoral roll.

As part of the drive, designated officials and field personnel have begun door-to-door visits to distribute enumeration forms to households throughout the district. Residents are being encouraged to cooperate with officials by providing accurate details and necessary information to facilitate a smooth and transparent verification process.

The SIR 2026 exercise is being carried out with the objective of strengthening the electoral system by identifying eligible voters, updating demographic details, and addressing discrepancies, if any, in the electoral roll. Authorities have emphasised the importance of public participation and urged citizens to complete and submit the forms within the stipulated time to avoid inconvenience.

Officials have further informed that special attention is being given to ensure coverage of remote and rural areas so that no eligible voter is left out of the electoral process. The district administration and election machinery are working in coordination to conduct the exercise efficiently and in a time-bound manner.

The house-to-house enumeration drive marks a crucial step towards maintaining a free, fair, and inclusive electoral system ahead of future elections, reinforcing the democratic participation of citizens.

CBC and PIB Gangtok Organise Publicity Programme on ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’ and ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’

Pakyong, May 29 (IPR): The Central Bureau of Communication (CBC) and Press Information Bureau (PIB), Government of India, Gangtok, organised a publicity programme at Sumin Lingchey Secondary School in Pakyong district today as part of its initiative to spread awareness on environmental issues, health, and social concerns.

The programme focused on two national campaigns — Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam — to raise awareness among students and the local community.

State Coordinator, Sarathi 1.0, Sikkim, and APS to HCM, Mr Bishal Sharma Pokhrel, attended the programme as the chief guest, while Headmistress of the school, Mrs Woeser Doma Bhutia, attended as the special guest.

Teachers, school staff, officials from PIB Gangtok and Akashvani Gangtok, and students attended the programme.

During the programme, Mr Pokhrel conducted an interaction session with students on Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam, and adolescent-related issues. He used discussions, question-answer sessions, and real-life examples to raise awareness on drug abuse prevention, environmental responsibility through tree plantation, and challenges faced during adolescence, encouraging students to adopt healthy and informed choices.

Mr Pokhrel also addressed concerns related to mobile phone use among adolescents. He discussed how excessive screen time may affect concentration, sleep, mental health, and social interaction. Students were advised to maintain limits on device usage, participate in outdoor activities, and use mobile phones for educational purposes.

He advised girl students to remain cautious while using social media platforms and warned against fake online profiles and AI-generated manipulated images used by anti-social elements. Students were asked to protect personal information, verify online contacts, and inform parents, teachers, or authorities in case of suspicious activities.

Speaking on the occasion, Headmistress Mrs Woeser Doma Bhutia thanked PIB and CBC for organising the awareness programme and stated that similar initiatives on different subjects would benefit students. She also encouraged students to carry the message of the programme to their villages and communities.

Assistant Director, PIB and Akashvani News Gangtok, Mr Manas Pratim Sarma, in his welcome address, thanked the school administration for extending support in organising the programme and acknowledged the participation of the State Coordinator, Sarathi 1.0.

As part of the programme, CBC and PIB Gangtok handed over Swachhta items to the school administration.

A quiz competition was also organised during the programme, where students participated and answered questions related to the themes of the event.
