Rescue and Recovery Operation at Barmeli Bridge, Phamtam
Following the tragic landslide incident near Barmeli Bridge, Phamtam, on 25th July 2026, an immediate and coordinated rescue and recovery operation was launched under the leadership of the District Administration.
Responding promptly to the emergency, personnel from the Indian Army, District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Sikkim Police, Fire & Emergency Services, Health Department, and the local administration, along with dedicated volunteers, worked tirelessly under extremely challenging weather and terrain conditions to carry out search, rescue, evacuation, and recovery operations.
The District Administration conveys its sincere appreciation to all responding agencies and individuals whose unwavering commitment, professionalism, and exemplary coordination ensured a swift and effective response during this difficult time.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and pray for the eternal peace of the departed souls. Our thoughts are also with those who sustained injuries, and we wish them a speedy and complete recovery.
