Sonya Gill, former State Secretary and former Central Executive Committee member of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) and one of the pillars of the organisation is no more with us. Her sudden and deeply shocking demise has devastated us and the left, democratic movement. She fought a long and determined battle against a serious illness for many years, yet remained active in the movement until the very end. She even participated in the nationwide Jail Bharo agitation on August 10, 2026. Sonya Tai showed us, through her own life, what ideological commitment and dedication truly means in practice.
This is an irreparable loss for the Maharashtra State and Mumbai District units of the AIDWA. In this difficult hour, all our like-minded comrades, leaders of various political parties and women’s organisations, and her old and new colleagues came to take a last glimpse of her. Many others who could not come sent touching messages. All this response was not only a tribute and a testament to Sonya’s work, but also brought immense solace to all of us. For this, we offer our heartfelt thanks to you all, with heavy hearts but deep gratitude.
The struggle will continue. We will all remain together in it. Strengthening our united movement, and defeating the Manuwadi, communal and pro-corporate forces—this alone will be a true tribute to Sonya tai.
