Traffic Advisory for 06th of July 2026

The following traffic advisory is hereby circulated for the information of the general public, tourists and commuters. They are advised to take note of the following arrangements and plan their travel accordingly in order to avoid any inconvenience during the specified period.
All commuters are requested to strictly adhere to the directions issued by the Traffic/ Police officials deployed on the ground and cooperate for the smooth regulation of traffic.

It is with profound grief and deep sorrow that the Traffic Police Wing Ladakh mourns the sad demise of Inspector Mehraj Khalid Giri. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and pray to the Almighty to grant eternal peace to the departed soul and bestow strength and fortitude upon the family members to bear this irreparable loss.
As a mark of respect and remembrance, all officers and officials of Traffic Police Wing Ladakh observed a two minutes silence and offered prayers for the eternal peace of the departed soul.

Ladakh Police and Transport Unions Join Hands to Ensure Road Safety During Tourist Season

Leh, 16 June 2026:

The Ladakh Police convened a joint meeting with representatives of local transport unions to address the challenges posed by the ongoing tourist season and the sharp rise in vehicular movement across Leh town. The meeting was chaired by Shri Rishabh Shukhla-IPS, (ASP) Dy. SP Headquarters Leh and attended by Ms. Kunzes Dolma-JKPS, Dy. SP Traffic Leh, Dy. SP Manzoor Hussain, SHO Police Station Leh and SI Rigzin Tamchos, Incharge Police Post Housing Colony Leh. Representatives from the Taxi Union Leh, Tempo Union Leh and Bikers Union Leh also participated in the discussions.
The meeting focused on traffic management, road safety and the importance of stakeholder coordination. Several pressing concerns were highlighted, including improper parking that often leads to congestion in busy areas, over-speeding and rash driving that endanger both locals and tourists and the lack of proper safety gear among bikers. Special emphasis was placed on the mandatory use of helmets, including for pillion riders, as a critical measure to reduce accidents and safeguard lives.
Police authorities urged all stakeholders to actively promote traffic discipline and responsible driving practices among their members. Bike renters were advised to present advisories to riders at the time of rental to help prevent eventualities such as high-altitude sickness, particularly on the Khardungla and Changla passes. The Traffic Police Ladakh also presented its action plan for the tourist season, which includes intensified enforcement against traffic violations, increased deployment of personnel in high-density zones and improved regulation to streamline vehicular movement.
The meeting concluded with a collective commitment from both the police and transport unions to work together in ensuring safer roads and smoother traffic flow in Leh during the peak tourist season. This collaborative approach reflects a shared responsibility to protect lives, maintain order and enhance the overall travel experience for residents and visitors alike.

A special joint enforcement drive by the Traffic Police and District Police has been launched to curb illegal parking and ease traffic congestion amid the increasing influx of tourists and heightened commercial activity.

On the first day of the drive, 75 challans were issued, predominantly for wrong parking, resulting in a noticeable improvement in the smooth flow of traffic. The enforcement teams issued both compound challans and court challans against violators. Action was also taken against vehicles fitted with black films in violation of traffic regulations.

The drive will continue in the coming days to ensure smooth traffic movement, discourage illegal parking, and enforce compliance with other traffic rules and regulations.

🚨Traffic Enforcement Drive at Kargil🚨

On the directions of SSP Traffic, UT Ladakh, a special enforcement drive was conducted at Kargil under the supervision of Dy. SP Traffic Kargil, Shri Sonam Angchuk.

During the drive, DTI Kargil along with all challaning officers, established a traffic checking naka with special emphasis on curbing the use of high beam lights during night hours.

A total of 24 violators were booked under various provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

🚨 Special Enforcement Drive Against High Beam Violations🚨
Under the directions of SSP Traffic, a Special Naka Drive was successfully conducted on ground to curb the dangerous practice of driving with high beam headlights.
The operation was effectively implemented by DySP Traffic Leh, assisted by IC Flying Squad Leh and other dedicated Sector Officers.
A total of 47 challans were imposed on violators during the drive.

Traffic Police Ladakh Holds Meeting with Civil Society Members to Strengthen Road Safety Measures

Leh, 13 April 2026:
In view of the commencement of the tourist season and the anticipated surge in vehicular movement in Leh town and its adjoining areas, Traffic Police Ladakh convened a comprehensive meeting with members of civil society at the office of the SSP Traffic, UT Ladakh.

The meeting was chaired by Ms. Kunzes Dolma-JKPS, Dy. SP Traffic Leh, with the participation of Inspector Abdul Mateen, DTI Leh, under the overall supervision of Shri Vikas Kumar-IPS, SSP Traffic UT Ladakh.

The meeting was organized with the objective of reviewing existing traffic management mechanisms and discussing proactive measures to ensure smooth, safe and regulated vehicular movement during the peak tourist season. Various issues pertaining to traffic congestion, parking management, adherence to traffic rules and pedestrian safety were deliberated in detail.

During the interaction, stakeholders highlighted key concerns, including improper parking, over-speeding, rash driving by visiting tourists and the need for better road signage and awareness campaigns. Emphasis was also laid on strengthening coordination between the Traffic Police and civil society to address emerging challenges in real time.

Traffic Police Ladakh sensitized the participants about the importance of strict compliance with traffic regulations, the use of helmets and seat belts and adherence to designated parking areas. The stakeholders were urged to act as responsible citizens and partners in promoting road safety by spreading awareness among locals as well as tourists.

The department also shared its action plan for the upcoming tourist season, which includes intensified enforcement drives, deployment of additional personnel at critical junctions, installation of signages and the use of public address systems to guide motorists. Special focus will be laid on regulating traffic in high-density areas and ensuring hassle-free movement along major tourist routes.

Traffic Police Ladakh reiterated its commitment to ensuring road safety and maintaining traffic discipline in the region. The meeting concluded with a collective resolve to work in coordination towards creating a safer and more organized traffic environment in Leh.
