Traffic Police Ladakh Holds Meeting with Civil Society Members to Strengthen Road Safety Measures
Leh, 13 April 2026:
In view of the commencement of the tourist season and the anticipated surge in vehicular movement in Leh town and its adjoining areas, Traffic Police Ladakh convened a comprehensive meeting with members of civil society at the office of the SSP Traffic, UT Ladakh.
The meeting was chaired by Ms. Kunzes Dolma-JKPS, Dy. SP Traffic Leh, with the participation of Inspector Abdul Mateen, DTI Leh, under the overall supervision of Shri Vikas Kumar-IPS, SSP Traffic UT Ladakh.
The meeting was organized with the objective of reviewing existing traffic management mechanisms and discussing proactive measures to ensure smooth, safe and regulated vehicular movement during the peak tourist season. Various issues pertaining to traffic congestion, parking management, adherence to traffic rules and pedestrian safety were deliberated in detail.
During the interaction, stakeholders highlighted key concerns, including improper parking, over-speeding, rash driving by visiting tourists and the need for better road signage and awareness campaigns. Emphasis was also laid on strengthening coordination between the Traffic Police and civil society to address emerging challenges in real time.
Traffic Police Ladakh sensitized the participants about the importance of strict compliance with traffic regulations, the use of helmets and seat belts and adherence to designated parking areas. The stakeholders were urged to act as responsible citizens and partners in promoting road safety by spreading awareness among locals as well as tourists.
The department also shared its action plan for the upcoming tourist season, which includes intensified enforcement drives, deployment of additional personnel at critical junctions, installation of signages and the use of public address systems to guide motorists. Special focus will be laid on regulating traffic in high-density areas and ensuring hassle-free movement along major tourist routes.
Traffic Police Ladakh reiterated its commitment to ensuring road safety and maintaining traffic discipline in the region. The meeting concluded with a collective resolve to work in coordination towards creating a safer and more organized traffic environment in Leh.
