The Institute for Climate Change Studies (ICCS), Kottayam, Kerala, is an Institution of Kerala State Council for Science, Technology & Environment (KSCSTE), under the Department of Science & Technology, Govt of Kerala. The general objectives of the Institute for Climate Change Studies (ICCS) are focused research on State-specific impacts of climate change on various sectors and zones of the State

and propose appropriate action for climate change management and adaptation strategy in collaboration with other Institutes, Universities and Line departments. The vision of ICCS is to empower the State of Kerala against the inevitable consequences of climate change and enhance the resilience and adaptation of the state through science, technology, innovation, and self-awareness. The mission is to conduct research related to State specific impacts of climate change on various climate-sensitive sectors and zones of the State and to develop a system for providing timely and improved climate change information and climate services to the state through collaboration with national and international institutions/ organizations, Universities and Line departments for better decision making and climate risk management.

KSCSTE organised a formal send-off to Prof. K. P. Sudheer, Executive Vice President, on 30 March 2026, marking the completion of his seven-year tenure. The function was attended by Prof. A. Sabu, Member Secretary, KSCSTE; M. C. Dathan, Mentor (Science), Government of Kerala; and Directors of R&D institutions under KSCSTE, who placed on record their appreciation of his contributions.

KSCSTE expressed its sincere gratitude for his leadership and dedicated service and wished him continued success as he returns to IIT Madras to embark on another distinguished phase of his career.

ICCS also conveys its heartfelt gratitude to Prof. Sudheer, its former Director, for his invaluable contributions and visionary leadership during his tenure. The institute extends its best wishes for his continued success and achievements in all his future endeavours.

The Workshop on Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS) for Ocean and Climate Applications, held from 16–18 March 2026, was organized by the KSCSTE – Institute for Climate Change Studies (ICCS) in association with the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. The programme commenced with an inaugural session that included a welcome address by Dr. K. Rajendran, Director, ICCS. followed by the inaugural address by Dr. Prasanna Kumar S,Director (Retd.), NIO, Goa. felicitation by Prof. Arun Chakraborty,Professor, CORAL & Dean of Student Well Being, IIT Kharagpur. and a vote of thanks by Dr. C. C. Bajish, Senior Scientist, ICCS concluding with the national anthem.

The technical sessions included expert lectures on oceanography, ocean dynamics, and data-driven modeling, along with project discussions and group activities. Participants also presented their work, while tea and lunch breaks encouraged informal interactions and idea sharing.

The workshop concluded with a valedictory session that began with a welcome address by Dr. K. Rajendran, Director, ICCS, followed by the presentation of the workshop summary by Dr. C. C. Bajish, Senior Scientist, ICCS. The valedictory address was delivered by Prof. Arun Chakraborty, Professor, IIT Kharagpur. The session also included felicitation of Dr. Prasanna Kumar S, Director (Retd.), NIO, Goa, participants’ feedback, and a vote of thanks by Dr. Glejin Johnson, Project Scientist II, ICCS. Overall, the program successfully fostered knowledge exchange, skill development, and meaningful academic interaction in the field of ocean and climate studies.

🌍 Kerala Climate–Health Expert Dialogue – Successfully Concluded

The Kerala Climate–Health Expert Dialogue, held on 12 March 2026 at Hotel Aida, Kottayam, brought together leading medical experts, climate scientists, and policymakers to explore the critical connections between climate change and public health.

Organized by the KSCSTE–Institute for Climate Change Studies under the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment, the event marked an important step toward building a healthier and more climate-resilient future. 🌱

The 3-day Workshop on HEC-RAS Hydraulic Modelling (11–13 March 2026) was successfully conducted with expert lectures and hands-on sessions on hydraulic modelling, flood inundation mapping, and urban flood mitigation. 🌊📊

The inaugural session featured the Welcome Address by Dr. K. Rajendran, Director, ICCS; Inaugural Address by Prof. K. P. Sudheer, Ex Officio Principal Secretary, S&T Department & Executive Vice President, KSCSTE; Felicitation by Smt. Rehina Haridas, Registrar, ICCS; and Vote of Thanks by Dr. Sinan Nizar, Junior Scientist, ICCS.

The workshop included expert lectures by Prof. B. S. Murty (Professor (Rtd), Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Madras), Dr. B. Sridharan (Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Palakkad), Mr. Jainet P. J. (Scientist, KSCSTE–CWRDM, Kozhikode), and Dr. Jesna Ismail (Post-Doctoral Researcher, Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering, The Pennsylvania State University).

The hands-on sessions were handled by Dr. Cicily Kurian (Hydrology Expert, Vassar Labs, Hyderabad) and Dr. Rohith A. N. (Assistant Professor, Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, IIT Delhi), providing valuable practical training to the participants.

The valedictory session included the Welcome Address by Dr. K. Rajendran, Director, ICCS; Workshop Summary by Dr. Sinan Nizar, Junior Scientist, ICCS; Valedictory Address by Padmashri M. C. Dathan, Mentor (Science), Government of Kerala; Felicitation by Prof. K. P.
