AISA Presidency University Unit

AISA Presidency University Unit Voice of radical students' movement From the outset, it has defeated the communal politics in its bastions at Kumaon University, Allahabad University, and BHU.

Across the world today, students and youth are coming out into the streets against the prevailing order based on anti-people policies and imperialist aggression, Their voices resound with the chant that ‘Another World is possible’. AISA is a revolutionary students movement which stands firmly in the campuses throughout the country with a vision of “A New India and A New World.’ The formation of A

ISA in 1990 was the result of a long felt need for a platform for the revolutionary and democratic students movement. And in the Student union elections in JNU, AISA has over the years marched forward with the revolutionary red flag. In the years that followed, AISA has been at the forefront of all struggles for student rights as well as larger democratic issues. The founding conference of AISA was on 9th August, Kranti Divas, at Allahabad. The second national conference was held in Delhi in 1994, the third in 1998 at Patna, the fourth in Allahabad (2001), the fifth in Calcutta (2004), and the sixth has recently concluded at Muzaffarpur. Since its inception, AISA has mobilized the student community across campuses on issues such as opposing fee hikes, against the package of commercialization of education and the anti-student recommendations of Knowledge Commission, against the BJP’s communal-fascist politics and Congress’s anti-people economic policies. We have stood for declaring education and employment as basic rights and have opposed the attack on campus democracy and student rights in the name of the Lyngdoh Committee recommendations. We have spoken out and agitated against political surrender to the anti-people economic policies and American imperialism. In all these ways, AISA has redefined the student movement. It was fighting for these ideals and against the criminalization of politics that AISA’s prominent leader and two-time JNUSU president, Comrade Chandrasekhar was martyred in the Siwan district of Bihar. AISA is committed to carrying forward the revolutionary legacy of Bhagat Singh and Chandrasekhar and our journey will not stop at any cost, not without achieving our destination — the Revolutionary transformation of society. We give voice to student’s creative energy through processions, demonstrations, seminars, street plays, film shows and revolutionary songs on various issues of our times. We appeal you all to come with us and participate in all these activities and play a significant role in transforming society.

AISA mailed a deputation to the university administration demanding a refund in PUBDET and PUMDET application fees.

Sir

The PUBDET and PUMDET examinations which were scheduled to take place have been cancelled by the WBJEE Board citing the pandemic as the reason behind its inability to conduct the examinations. Applicants were required to pay Rs 500 as application fees to WBJEEB when the portals for application to PUMDET and PUBDET were open. The applications got cancelled when the entrance tests were cancelled by WBJEEB and Presidency University conducted the admission process. However, no mechanism has been initiated till date to ensure the refund of Rs 500 to each and every applicant who had applied for PUBDET and PUMDET.

We urge you to initiate a communication with the WBJEE Board so that an online framework can be laid out for a refund of the application fees to each and every PUBDET and PUMDET applicant as it rightfully belongs to them because of the cancellation of the entire examination process.

Statement by AISA Comrade Bhaskar Sarkar, Presidency ex-student, on him being named along with 13 others in a police FIR for taking part in anti NRC-CAA-NPR protests at the University of Hyderabad on February 2020.

On 21st Feb, 2020, HCU Coordination Committee against CAA-NRC along with MANUU Students' Union conducted a rally against these draconian and unconstitutional law and register by BJP government. Telangana Police has slapped 14 activists of 'HCC against CAA-NRC' including me a FIR of three IPCs.
We, 14 of HCU, stand united because this does not surprise us; TRS is working as a puppet of BJP in Telangana and that is why their stand in parliament did not stop them from filing FIR against university students for conducting a rally ! A number of students from that list were not even in Hyderabad that day and basic study of the FIR proves it to be a baseless and false case and a deliberate attempt of Witch-hunting.
All targeted students are activists from progressive students' organisations and prevailing from marginalised groups of India. After Jamia, JNU, and Aligarh, they have come to handpick oppositions from HCU! We collectively consider ourselves as counterpart of all democratic organisations fighting the fascist onslaught of BJP and extend our revolutionary solidarity to all Indian students.
I salute all political prisoners of opposition groups. I salute all protesting farmers and workers. I salute everyone of Anti-CAA-NRC movement who hold the banners of democracy, secularism, and socialism.

AISA Presidency Unit stands in complete solidarity with Comrade Bhaskar and all the other 13 Comrades who have been systematically targetted for registering their protest against the divisive and draconian chronology of NRC-CAA-NPR.

The Left Student's organisations will completely support and will actively participate in the All India Protest Day on 25th September, called by the All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee, a joint Platform of Peasants. On this day various resistance actions including Rasta Roko, Rail Roko, and other actions will be organized throughout the country, against the anti-people, anti-farmer destructive legislations promulgated by the BJP lead Central Government.

In the recent times the Modi government has launched a war against the students and the youth of this country, by taking anti-student policies one after the another, like the National Education Policy or the conducting of Exams during the pandemic. The unemployment rate is also increasing day by day, and currently reaching at a recod level in the Indian history.

On 20th September, the RSS-BJP led NDA Government manipulated and tried to destroy the parliamentary system ignoring the voting rights on the agricultural related bills. Fascist authoritarian attitude of this central government was reflected through this undemocratic action. The aim of these three legislations is to abolish Government’s role in procurement at MSP, the APMC Mandis and to allow corporates the freedom for hoarding and black-marketing.

The impact of these legislations is not only limited to the farming communities but the
majority of the public will be adversely affected. The public distribution system will
be affected to a greater extend. It is also clear that the students from these families will be affected as well.

Like earlier, we will actively participate in the nationwide protest activities. We also urge the student community of this country to participate in this battle against the anti-people Modi raj.

The demands have been raised by other student organisations and platforms in Presidency. AISA reiterates these demands concerning the examinations of students in the wake of COVID 19 pandemic. It is essential to recognise that students are the primary stakeholders of any university and any decision concerning university affairs must be taken keeping in mind the concerns and interests of the student community.
