A Fish Farmers’ Meet was organised on 5 September 2026 at Hajo Gaon Panchayat Conference Hall, Kamrup, to create awareness among local fish farmers and fisheries stakeholders on strengthening fisheries cooperatives, Fish Farmer Producer Organisations (FFPOs) and registration under the National Fisheries Digital Platform (NFDP).

Around 150 fish farmers, members of fisher groups and other stakeholders participated in the meet. Discussions focused on collective action for improving fish production, input procurement, marketing, value addition and access to institutional support.

Participants were also sensitised on the benefits of NFDP registration, including access to institutional credit, aquaculture insurance, fisheries cooperatives, performance-based incentives, traceability, training and capacity building.

Kamrup, which ranks second in fish production at the State level, produces around 42,000 MT of fish annually, with nearly 50,000 individual fish farmers. The district has 42 fishery cooperative societies and six NGOs associated with fisheries development.

The meet encouraged fish farmers to complete their NFDP registration to gain formal recognition and access eligible government support.

The programme was attended by Dr Sanjay Sarma, District Fisheries Development Officer, Kamrup; Smt Bonani Das, President, No. 2 Gaon Panchayat, Hajo as the chief guest; fisheries officials; representatives of the Gaon Panchayat; fish farmers; members of fisher groups and other stakeholders.
