Need one reason to save the Western Ghats? I'll give you five!
http://www.greenhumour.com/2017/04/5-reasons-to-preserve-western-ghats.html

The comic appears in my column with Mid-Day today, in the wake of the ongoing tussle between the central and state governments about the centre's decision to notify 56,825 square kilometres of the Western Ghats as an eco-sensitive zone, to which the state governments (Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and specially Kerala) have cited an objection. You can show support for the preservation of the Ghats by following the steps here and lending your voice to the Conservation India campaign- http://www.conservationindia.org/campaigns/western-ghats .

On , we must remember that we emerged from forests, grew and survived under their canopy cover, and that our wild animal family (along with millions of humans) continue to depend upon forests as their home. Forests are also essential for our watersheds and fresh water supplies, sequester large amounts of CO2, and provide us with ample oxygen.

In many human communities, however, forests are often the only available source of energy. 90% of fuelwood and charcoal use takes place in developing countries. At the Jane Goodall Institute, we are providing options with projects like Agroforestry, and use GIS to track habitat health while also supporting environmental education and Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots Program to help protect our global forests.

How do you contribute to making sure we keep our forests safe?

What does a forest mean to you ?

Is it, an escapade into the wilderness from the daily humdrum of affairs.
A quiet vacation into the greens to get lost just to find oneself.
Home to those millions of species of flora and fauna, with whom we share this planet. The means of sustenance of Life. Air. Water. Land. Food.

Or, is it an unexplored area waiting to be exhausted to it’s potential. A healthy patch of land waiting to be raided with invasive alien species of flora for commercial growth. An undiscovered terrain that requires levelling down and further urbanisation.

So, what is it that the word ‘forest’ triggers in you ?
