“Ri Lani Jamba Ruru” is a rare Monpa folk song from Morshing, Arunachal Pradesh, sung by Guru Pema Tashi Trangpodar, with music by Jim Ankan Deka. It is one of the first songs of its kind to be documented in the language of the people of Morshing, Arunachal Pradesh.

“Ri Lani Jamba Ruru” celebrates the sacred landscape, cultural memory and spiritual life of the land. The song paints a vivid picture of Morshing and its surrounding mountains, including the nine jewel-like mountains, Lhagyala Gonpa, Wangley Kye Lha, the Tsen-drak deity Namlachizor, Domjey Yul Lha, and the sacred Tree Guardian Shingdag and White Naga Queen Lumo Karmo. Moving through these sacred places and guardian deities, the song ultimately becomes a heartfelt prayer—to be blessed by the land and its waters, and to be born here again and again, life after life. Sung by Guru Pema Tashi Trangpodar, the song offers a rare glimpse into the deep connection between the Monpa people, their landscape, their spiritual traditions and their ancestral memory.
