he arduous efforts of few honorable members of this trade, Gem Testing Laboratory (GTL) came into existence in August 1972 under the Convener-ship of (Late) Padmashri Khailshanker Durlabhji, founder Chairman of the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council. Today, the main function of GTL is Gemstone Identification and act as an information center for Researchers, R & D Departments, Customs Departments, Income Tax Departments, Schools, Colleges , Journalists, etc. GTL is regularly involved in the research on developing techniques of identification of new gem materials, synthetics and treatments. The research works continuously publish in various trade and gemological journals like Gems & Gemology, Gems & Jewellery, The Australian Gemologist, etc.
