ಘೋಡಗೇರಿಯ ಪೂರ್ವದ ಹೆಸರು ಗೊಲ್ಲಾರಟ್ಟಿ,ಉಡುಗೇರಿ ಎಂದಿತ್ತು ಎಂಬುದು ವಿದ್ವಾಂಸರ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ. ಪಾರ್ಚ್ಯ ರಾಜನ ಆಳ್ವಿಕೆಯ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಕುದುರೆ(ಘೋಡ)ಗಳನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟುವ ಸ್ಥಳ(ಕೋಟೆ)ವಾಗಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಜನರ ಆಡುನುಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಉಡುಗೇರಿ "ಘೋಡಗೇರಿ" ಆಯಿತು.

ಗ್ರಾಮ ಹೆಮ್ಮ ಪಡುವಂತೆ ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಅತಿಉದ್ದದ "ತೂಗು ಸೇತುವೆ" ಪಕ್ಕದ ಅವರಗೋಳ ಗ್ರಾಮವನ್ನು ಸಂಪರ್ಕಿಸುತ್ತಿದೆ.
